Hey guys,

I have a 2010 VE Series II SS-V.

I am taking out the 6L80E and putting in a TH400, but apparently I need to change the E38 to a "manual tune file".....

Can anyone help out with this? Let me know what other details might be needed.

Cheers,

Andrew

Why are you fitting a 400? I would guess for drag racing or big power? you may have some idle issues unless you have a good sized convertor.

Yeah, putting some decent power through it...and yes, I do drag race the car. 2800 TCE converter....nothing wrong with the E38 tune and it idles perfectly :)

You may have some small issues when you try and run a manual tune with an auto, things can get out of whack when you go from park to drive, with an auto tune the ECU knows it has happened and different idle learns etc are used, without the gear selector input during gear selections there could be a few stumbles.

I have never put a 400 behind an E38 but have done a few LS1-400 combos and it takes a bit to get right if you have a low stall and big cam..

Did you get a tune? I have plenty if you need one, and remember to make sure the two calibrations are compatible before you full flash or you may end up with a paper weight...

The tune side is easy. Its the rest of the car that needs the work since alot of modules from the dash cluster to the EBCM need to be reprogrammed. Plus if you dont change to a manual look and jumping the CAN lines etc. Fun fun fun

TH400 is in....engine runs fine, gears change verrrrrrry nicely!

The only real issue...is that the speedo doesn't work!

Jez - is this what you mean about the dash cluster to EBCM needing to be reprogrammed? The revs show up fine though...

Did you actually bypass the T43 Controller in the CAN network?

Jezz - No idea..... how would I do that?

... My speedo is still not working ...

How are generating the VSS signal ? (pulse generator , etc.)

How did you wire the VSS signal generator to the E38 ECM ?

Is it the case that when you log VSS from the ECM it is correct, but just not being sent to the IPC ?

Or is there no VSS when logging it from the ECM ?

Taz

Jezz - Nick says that the T43 has been bypassed in the CAN network....

You may need a terminating resistor in the CAN bus, I cant remember which two modules have them but there may have been one in the T43...

No resistor in the T43. There is one in the E38 - which is all that is used in an engine conversion / Hot Rod configuration. OEM may have configured the original vehicle with second resistor (same ohm rating) - sometimes called a Data Link Resistor.

Don't think any of this is related to the speedometer issue ... once I have answers to the questions in post #13, I may be better able to make suggestions regarding speedometer function.
