View Full Version : Flashscan won't go into Dead Poll mode

I am trying to update my firmware. I held the control key on the flashscan, and the orange lights are alternately blinking. However, I am getting an error message that the Flashscan is "not in dead poll mode". I thought that the blinking lights indicated that it was in fact in Dead Poll mode?

You shouldnt need to do that. What version 7.5 and 8 are you running?

I am running V7 5.7 Build 211, and V 8.2.1 Build 203. My Flashscan has not been updated in probably 3 years, never had to as all my tuning I did through V.7 but now I need to do it through V.8 so I need to update.

Minytrker, I see your point now. I did some more reading, looks like my current firmware version is up to date enough where I should not need to go and update the firmware version first, I should be able to start by updating the bootblock first. I will try this tonight, thank you.

What are the current versions of bootblock and firmware in your V2...?

I will have to check when I get home tonight. But I want to say I had bootblock version 2.05.8. It was definitely one of the later versions where I should not have program the firmware first, I guess I just mis-understood the instructions for updating yesterday. I will try tonight to update the bootblock, hopefully the V2 will then automatically go into "dead poll" mode, and then I can update firmware. At least that is how I am understanding the instructions.

:) It's been sooo long since I've had to go into Dead Poll Mode. All the improvements throughout the system are great!

Well I had not updated my Flashscan in 3 years haha. But i think I have it figured out, will try to tune tonight. Also, I am going to get real ambitious and get an SD card and try to do some logging:grin:. I'm kind of excited, had never even updated my Flashcan OR software, just had the same old computer and loaded tunes in, kind of excited now that I'm learning about the possiblities of EFI Live!

You will love it when you discover all the new things that can me done now. It happens to me every time I am "forced" to update or learn something. ;)

After your bootblock/firmware are upto date, you need to run V8 S&T, goto BBx, and edit each of the Scan and Tune pages (to match your PCM/ECM), and then Save (to file Options.txt), and then do Program All (accessed via small downarrow next to the Program button).

Thanks Joe, and yes I did read this, but it apperas as though I do not have the room on my Flashscan to do this, it is saying 114% capacity when i have only the LBZ ECM (E35A) and 6 Spd Allison TCM (A40) selected. I will have to get an SD card I suppose, does that seem right or should I have room without the SD card?

You need an SD card... SanDisk 2G SD card is about $3 at Amazon.

Ok thanks again joe. I plan to buy one today anyways, just wanted to check if I am "supposed" to need one, or if I was doing something wrong.

Did all the necessary updates and everything, and the Flashcan works beautifully! But looks like I have a bit more of a learning curve here. I have read all directions but still having no luck with the logging, so hoping you guys can help me out.

Installed the SD card into the Flashcan device. Hit Ctrl+Backspace and changed the settings to “SD Card”. However, when I open Scan & Tune, F5 BBX, if I try to select any of the PIDs in the top half of the screen, it still displays over 100% “Space Required” below. Is that saying that I do not have enough memory space, meaning it is not picking up the SD card? Is this not the first step, to get the PIDs you plan to log onto the Flashscan?

Did you set the File System to SD Card (this can be done on the F6 Device page)...?

Then on the F5 BBx Scan page, you have to delete the pidlists that are for other than your PCM/ECM.

Yes, I did set the File system to SD Card via the F6 Device page. My flashcan devise itself shows 1894 MB of free space on the SD card as well. Even if I select just the PIDs I need (LBZ ECM and Allison 6 Speed TCM) I still get over 100% capacity and an error message that I do not have room. I attached a screen shot of what I see if that helps.

Ok, you have to Format the Config space... from the BBx page click the down-arrow next to the Program button and click Format CONFIG Filesystem.

Then after the format completes, do Program All.

I figured it out, once in BBX, I needed to go to the F3 Tune function, and de-select the ECMs I would not be using. Thanks again for all the help, I will try to do some logging this weekend!

Ok cool

Also do this: on the Scan page delete the pidlists that are not for your ECM.
