I got to step D on page 3, and I accidentally installed the newest V8 firmware before the new boot block. Now my V2 box isn't recognized by computer or truck. When I plug it into computer the leds flash left to right then right to left and that's it. I can't see it in explorer or scan and tune V7.5 or V8. What should I do?

Which bootblock do you have installed...?

Can you unplug the USB cable, and then re-plug it.

Do the amber/orange LEDs flash alternately continuously...?

SoCal Diesel tech figured it out. Had to reinstall the previous firmware, then update in the correct order. Phew...was worried I messed the thing up royally. Thanks!

I have an older Flashscan (license issue date is March 2008).

The Firmware reported in EFILive 7.5 is 2.4.70.

I assume that "2.4.70" is the same as 2.04.xx as listed in the "Upgrading FlashScan.pdf"
16542
because I see that in this older post (http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?8834-FlashScan-Bootblock-Upgrade-Failed) the versions are referred to as V2.4.xx & V2.5.xx, etc.

Also, the "Upgrading FlashScan.pdf" states that:
"If FlashScan has boot block V2.04.xx or earlier, please perform these steps:
1. Program firmware V2.04.72.
2. Use FlashScan’s menu option to upgrade the boot block to V2.05.08.
3. Program firmware V2.05.21
4. Go to step D..."

But although I've search on those version numbers, I can't find the firmware update that old.
I assume that even firmware updates that old are still part of the V8 installer, correct?
But where can I find the installers that have these older firmware versions ?

Thanks!

Yes, 2.4.70 and 2.04.70 are the same.

No... 2.4.72 comes with V7.5 (as explained it that pdf).

Look in folder C:\Program Files\EFILive\V7.5

you will see these files:
- FSProg_V2_4_72.ffw <--- this is the firmware 2.4.72
- EFILive_FIrmware.exe <--- this is the programming tool for it

Thanks.

I should have put a link here to a series of posts starting here (http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?8426-Installing-the-V8-Software&p=203712&viewfull=1#post203712)
(where Paul had helped point me in the right direction over the weekend)
especially the more detailed summary post I made here (http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?8426-Installing-the-V8-Software&p=203718&viewfull=1#post203718):

OK... it all seems to have worked out OK after all.
I'm going to fill in the blanks so maybe the next guy won't be left guessing which way is which, or wondering where the boot block & firmware update files can be found.

Maybe this will make it easier (from page 3 of "Upgrading FlashScan.PDF"):

Upgrading the boot block and firmware of your FlashScan device:
The following steps, described in detail in the next few pages are required if you have an older Flashscan device that has not had any bootblock or firmware updates since it was new. If you have already performed any of these steps during previous beta updates you do not need to perform them again. Simply start from the first step that you have not performed yet.

A - If FlashScan has boot block V2.04.xx or earlier, perform these steps:

1. Program firmware V2.04.72 using the "EFILive Firmware Programmer"
16547
...by pressing the button next to the red arrow to load the file "FSProg_V2_4_72.ffw" (which is in the "V7.5" folder) and then pressing the "Program" button.

2. Upgrade the boot block to V2.05.08 using FlashScan’s menu option (Main Menu: F4 "Options" -> "F1 "Licensing" -> "F4 "Upgrade Bootblock")

3. Program firmware V2.05.21 using the "EFILive Control Panel" in the "V8" folder. The Boot Block & Firmware update files (" *.efw") should be in the V8 folder too.

4. Follow the instructions in small red print (e.g.: "Please update to version: 2.07.06" as shown above)
in the "EFILive Control Panel" and when you get done it should look like this:

Thanks for posting that.
As it turned out, I missed that more detailed explanation on the next page (page 4).
For some reason, it was displaying as side-by-side pages, so the next page I saw when scrolling down was actually page 5, with the only "tattletale" being the tiny little page number at the top.

Looks like there's enough room on the (blank) bottom half of page 3 to incorporate the key info that's currently on page 4.

Providing concise instructions on one page might be better.
