First time poster, constant lurker. I know someone selling an EFILive V1 on the Corvette Forum and thought I would post the ad here to get some feedback on whether this is a good deal or not. I presently have a '98 C5 with HPTuners, but have always loved how my buddy's Duramax performed with EFIlive, so trying to get my hands on one. The ad is below as well as a posters response.
"I have an EFILive V1 commercial version for sale. It is the pc based efilive without the hand held tuner. I works great. No credits are left on the cable. The only reason I am selling it is because my tuner uses hp tuners. Unfortunately, efilive and hp tuners are not interchangable. 200 shipped
Thanks"
"You can purchase tuning licenses from EFILive directly on the web or from any of their authorized resellers all over the country. However I don't think you need a license to tune 97/98 corvette ECM, I believe EFILive allows you to tune as many of those as you want for free"

If you have a 97-98 LS1A PCM, then EFILive will allow you to tune the vehicle without a license. So, yes if you buy this V1 even though it doesnt have any available licenses, you can tune your 98.
Bigger question is to ask if the original owner has upgraded it to a V2 cable, sometimes people upgrade (at a discount for owning a V1 cable) then sell their V1 cable. Problem is, as soon as you upgrade your V1 cable you cannot purchase any additional licenses for it.

Thanks Scarab, that is good to know. If the owner hasn't upgraded, how many credits would I need to tune two other vehicles?

OK, EFILive doesnt use a credits system like HPTuners. IMO, its much easier. You buy 1 controller license (V1, per controller) or VIN license (V2, per vehicle) and thats it. When the V1s came out they were originally just for the LS1 PCM so just 1 license is needed, with the LB7/LLY Duramax/Allison combo you'd need 2 licenses (1 for the ECM, 1 for the TCM). V2s made this simpler with the introduction of a VIN license, 1 VIN license lets you license both 1 PCM/ECM AND 1 TCM per license.
If the vehicles you want to tune are LS1 or P10, then 2 additional PCM licenses at $125ea are needed.
If the vehicles you want to tune are LB7 or LLY, then 4 additional PCM licenses at $125ea are needed. (2 for the ECMs and 2 for the TCMs, this is where the V2 pricing is much better.)
Remember, the V1 only lets you tune LS1, P10, LB7, LLY, and Allison 5spd controllers, everything else requires a V2. Check the supported vehicles page to make sure you can actually tune the other two vehicles.

Thanks Scarab,
The other two vehicles are a '68 Lemans with a 5.3/4l60E combo and an '84 C10 with a 6.0/TH350 soon to be a 4L80E. So not quite LS1's but LS based.

If they use the LS1 PCM then you'll be fine, sounds like some cool projects!

The are a pain but once they are done I can breathe a little better. For clarification do you consider your '08 Trailblazer to be an LS1 PCM?

No, its an E67 ECM/T42 TCM combo.
Honestly calling it a LS1 PCM isnt the best description, it was first used with the 97-99 5.7L LS1 but then in 2000 GM started using it on a lot more engines. 4.8L, 5.3, 6.0, 7.4, 8.1 in trucks, LS1, LS6 in Firebird/Camaro/ T/A /Vette, fullsize vans, etc. Anything with a V8 from 2000 to 2004 used the LS1 PCM, the GMT800s used it through 07 in the classic body style then switched to the E38.
