Hi all, I ran into my first flashing problem today after tuning the same PCM for 2 years.

The events which triggered this are:

I have flashed my 2001 z06 with 1 of the 2 licenses that comes with the V2 for 2 years and as recently as a few days ago. Yesterday, I plugged into a 2010 E38 PCM and used the 2nd license and paired that PCM with the flashscan cable. Today, I plug back into the 2001 LS1B and try to upload a tune and V7.5 gives the error seen attached. Tune V7.5 cannot determine the OS number. I have no idea why because a few days ago it was working fine. If I save the same .tun to a V8 .ctz and flash with the V2 BBX it works fine.

Do you think it is a V7.5 software, hardware or license problem?

I'm using efi live v7.5.7 build 211
Boot Block V2.07.04
Boot Block Date Dec 12, 2011
Firmware V2.07.35
Firmware Date Jun 22, 2012

I just saw an option in V8 to check the controller license and it said the license was successful. It sounds like it is narrowed down to V7.5 program or the .tun calibration. Maybe I need to reinstall V7.5?

First, make sure V8 is closed completely, Ive had some weird issues even with it disconnected from the V2 and using V7.5.

Can you check the OS with V7.5, use the PCM calibration details page (looks like an old ROM chip next to the full flash button), does it correctly pull the OS/VIN?

Rebooted everything and started with a fresh V7.5 instance. Flash failed again. Read the PCM cal details and it looks like everything is correct.

Can you please locate and send the appropriate *.blx trace files as described towards the end of this page:

Send them to paul@efilive.com and include a link to this thread so I know what the files are about.

Thanks joecar.

Paul, email sent.

Looking at the trace file it appears to be a timing bug in the V7 software. The software tries to obtain the OS number before the EFILive boot loader is fully operational.
It should be fixed in the next update. Meanwhile please use the V8 software to flash any LS1B controllers if the same issue happens again.

Paul

Paul, thank you for the quick response and your help finding the bug.

If it is any coincidence, sometimes I have a bootloader reject after step 1. This happens if I try to flash with V7 after logging with V7 but just disconnecting with V7 scan software. I found that a disconnect/reconnect of all hardware (USB to V2 and OBDII to V2) it will work on the next flash attempt. Not sure if it's related but I just thought I would mention it. If you want I can send bootloader step 1 reject .blx.

Thanks again,
JJ
