How the heck does a PCM get locked? I tried to read my current program in my PCM to lock in the "Base Tune" as of 03/15/06 and the darn PCMs is telling me that it is locked and I need a key or code to inlock it. Hell, I didn't loc the darn thing in the first place! :)

I know this might sound too simple, but did you select the correct PCM type in the 'PCM TYPE' window. I went to read a 99 Vette and it told me the PCM was locked. I had 98 PCM selected. :nixweiss:

I didn't change or select anything different than I normally do. My 98 doesn't give me but 1 option.

We don't even offer locking for 1998's!!

Well, that might be true but I'm staring at this screen when I try to read my PCM.

I may have induced this situation myself. I was in a hurry and not paying attention and asked for a "read". I did not have my ignition key on. It gave me that screen. I cleared the messages, closed the program, re-entered the program, turned on the key asked for the download and got the same screen.

Hey, I'm too stupid to even know HOW to lock it! LOL It's just mad at me! I can update it and change things but it simply won't give me a down load.

Yes and it also says '1999+ V8 PCM Selected'. Select 1998 PCM and it should be okay.

HEY! Where the hell did the 1999+ V8 PCM come from? I haven't screwed with that?

LOL! I just saw that too!

Shoot, this is easy! Ok, I do NOT know how it changed to 99 but that obviously was the "lock". It read just fine when I changed it to 98. I've never even LOOKED AT the drop down box.

Sigh...

Thanks,

That was what I was referring to in my first post. I probably didn't explain it clearly enough.

Paul, Ross:

I know it says "Make sure you have the correct PCM type at the top of the window" in the Error box, but maybe you can highlight it, make it BOLD and flash on and off. People tend to read the first sentence and stop reading.

Maybe it would be better to have that sentence FIRST and then the sentence about the PCM being locked.

Tell ya what...

That was the first "download" since I did the latest software upgrade. I have done downloads before, so apparently it was set to the 98. Would it be possible that the table was set via "default" to 1999+ on the last update, thus changing something that I HAD PREVIOUSLY set to 98?

Hm......

Jesse explained the mystery!

If you Start the software and hit the program key before the vehicle is ready then it will revert to the 99 pcm type.

Which is exactly what I mentioned previously.

But your old Model T sure do run!! :Eyecrazy: Wish I could have seen it when I was in Florida.

Noticed LS6 in your sig. Did you stick with 346ci on the new motor?

We are debating "freshening up" the Blue Meanie with some bigger pistons and more movement, but haven't been able to decide what.

AutoWorx built me an LS6 and I had NLP stuff it in the car. Still trying to get a good tune on it. One nagging little problem on a "hot" start and it wanting to surge looking for an idle. Car is a tad friskier than it was.
