I am trying to tune my 2002 3500. Just bought it, no idea what has been done to it in the past. 108,000 miles and an old lady had it. I tried to retrieve the PCM calibrations and it says its locked. I can use scan just fine, but nothing with the tuning tool. V1 is what I'm using. Ideas?

Try selecting the Try Alt Keys checkbox in the V7.5 Tune Tool, then uncheck the Use High Speed. I cant remember if you can use the V8 tune tool with a FlashScan V1, I know it has a bunch of unlocking options than V7.5 does.

Can you read the Allison TCM?

I haven't got that far. Its been about two years since I've messed with it. I can't figure out how to lock it to my vehicle. The VIN that tune pulls is gibberish. I was just trying to change the tire size.

Tire size will be in just the ECM.

Lets start over, are you running the latest public V7.5.7 build 211 release from the EFILive.com downloads page? Or the Pre-Release 06?

If you're not running V7.5.7 build 211, start by updating to that (just download and install V7.5) and try it again.

And I did uncheck high speed and checked alt keys. No luck. It just says PCM reverted back to the previous state.

I have build 211. Updated everything the other day.

I didn't get V8 as I understood it to be irrelevant to my vehicle.

The tire size changes are made in the ECM, leave the TCM alone as changes to it will seriously affect shifting(and normally in a BAD way). Make sure your using the 2012 updates, and to update teh firmware. i don't think the V1 will work with the V8 software in pass through mode for scanning and reading. Unfortunatley quite a few of us have experience read problems with V7 and the 2012 update and LB7's. Theres no ryhme or reason to it, but many times shutting down the software and unplugging the V2 then trying again will normally allow it to go through.

Good info, thanks for chiming in!

Updated my previous post so it will clear moving forward for others.

V1 firmware is not field-updatable, so that's not an issue. As mentioned above, try unplugging everything and turning the truck off for a minute or so. Reboot the laptop then replug everything in and try it again.

Do you think the 2012 software could have something to do with the PCM reading as locked?

Thanks for the tips. I'll try them tomorrow.
