I have replaced an E38 ECM and need to clear the P0315 crank position sensor learn error.

I had used the old CKP version of this.

Unfortunately none of the DVT functionality is currently documented. Does this exist anywhere?

How does the new CASE function work? I was expecting it to put up the CKP window but it doesn't.

I'm guessing the procedure is to Activate the ECM, wait for ECT to be in the target range; hit the CASE button; rev to 5000 waiting for the momentary fuel cutoff; immediately lift.

Is this correct?

Since the P0315 can't be cleared by the diagnostics clear function, I'm assuming this doesn't prevent CASE from working.

It shouldn't (otherwise you can't do a re-learn).

Best way is to warm up the engine first, then connect to the ECM via DVTs, put parking brake on, foot on brake, Activate CASE, stab gas until it cuts (around 4000rpms, it's noticeable), lift immediately and let engine coast to idle. Turn engine off, disconnect DVTs, wait 30 sec.

The ECM gives you only 10 seconds to bring the RPM up.

The fuel cutoff will be a very noticeable stumble.

I am trying to do a CASE Relearn on a GM E Rod Crate Engine (basically an LS3). Even though I don't believe the brake is tied in I have pressed the brake, hit the CASE button in EFI Live Bi Directional then immediately stabbed the engine north of 4000 RPM there is no stumble (fuel cut) with the engine warmed up to operating temp (100C). What am I missing.

With E38/E67 ECM you will need brake switch input and possibly parking brake input via BCM (body control module) CAN message...

Hi JoeCar
I have been off for awhile. Thanks for the quick reply.

The GM Performance crate motors don't have a brake input or BCM. They are a standalone ECM.

Yes, but without those inputs the CASE relearn won't proceed.
