I am trying hard, but having issues with flashing a 2005 LLY K2500 truck (trying to license it using the Program PCM calibrations flash). I have pulled the standard 4 fuses in the underhood fuse box (TBC Batt, TBC Ignition, Info, Radio), but not luck. Then tried again with pulling those 4 plus the Radio Amp, and the Brake one (think that is the ABS fuse) in the Instrument panel fuse box. While in the instrument panel fuse box, I also pulled the three fuses that mentioned TBC (truck body controller which I believe is basically, the BCM). Still same issue - Flashscan could initialize, and load the boot loader, but when it went to detect the ECM, it said PCM not detected.

Short of pulling ever F'n fuse in this thing, what am I missing? Some one said make sure the ABS is pulled, which I believe is the Brake fuse in the instrument panel fuse box. Do I also need to pull the 60 amp fuse in the underhood fuse box too?

This truck does have some aftermarket stuff (blue tooth, cell phone crap), but when you pull the radio fuse, those are no longer powered. There is also a Prodigy trailer brake module .... but it shouldn't be on the data link bus ???? If it was, anyone know which fuse that would be???

A few other things I have tried are checking the Try Alt Keys and using the low speed mode. In fact, these are the settings that I start out with when trying to flash.

Oh, and yes, I can read the ECM no problems. I originally read this truck using BBR ... no issues. I also read the truck using the V2 in pass-thru mode with V7 tune tool. No issues. Right after the read, I went back to try and flash, but same thing - no PCM detected.

BTW - here's the output from trying to flash

Ok, first off you need to upgrade your software. Your firmware is 2.5 years old. And for some reason it's detecting the PCM and generating an OS # based off a 97 Camaro (I dont even think EFILive can tune a 97 Camaro as they were still LT1s...).

Download V7.5 and V8 from here: EFILive downloads page (http://www.efilive.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=133) and install both, then upgrade your bootblock first, then firmware.

Then try it again, try it in V7.5 and V8 (my preference, much faster).

Erik,

Thanks for the reply and yes I probably should upgrade. My only issue with upgrading is reading about how some people are having some quirks with flashing and licensing LB7's with the V8 software. And since you can't go back, I am fine with staying this old. It works for my LB7's and LS1's which is what I tend to play with most days of the week. And up to this build of the software, there were no issues with LLY's. Build 139 I believe is when you could brick an LLY ... and the temporary fix was to go back to build 133.

You would want to use the V7.5 to flash the LB7 and LLY's. Like Erik stated update your programs and firmware and try again.

The other option I am thinking of pursuing is making a bench flash harness. Does anyone know if the pins from an LS1 harness (LB7) are the same as on an LLY? I have an LS1 harness that I could use to make it into an LLY bench harness if the pins would work.

Yes, I realize that you are supposed to use the different versions of the software based on which ECM you are flashing. I believe though that some people (TheFerminator I think) was having to use V8 to flash his LB7 since V7.5 wouldn't. Thus, I would rather not have to play with undesireable interactions like this if I don't have to.

Yes, they are supposed to be the same.

Honestly I never use V7.5 for reading or flashing ANYTHING these days. V8 is faster, seems to recover better, and I havent had any issues with it. I understand your hesitation to upgrade, but honestly I think there was a similar issue that was fixed in a release over a year ago...

It is very seldom I have heard of the V7.5 software not working and then needing V8. I have had to do it myself for pulling down a stock tune once. But V7.5 is for the most part the best way to flash the LB7 and LLY.

Im not saying V7.5 isnt stable or good, just saying Ive had better luck with V8. I do a lot of P10s (VPW) and E67s (CAN), Ive had issues with the P10s for a long time on some trucks with aftermarket stereos (similar to the LLYs) and once I started using V8 I didnt have any issues. Same truck failed repeatedly with V7.5, first try with V8 went just fine. Use whatever works for you, Ive gotten in the habit of just using V7.5 for the editor and scan tool.

I guess I will work a few with V8 and see how it works for me.

From a development and support perspective, in 'generic' terms each time someone requests support with V7.5 our first line of response will be 'attempt with V8'. If it works with V8, then the solution is delivered. V7 is 10 years old, we want to keep developing and complete V8, not enhance or invest time in our outdated platform. We have drawn a line in the sand for want of a better term.

What I've just said isn't a blanket rule, but our ideology. V7 will continue to have 'critical' updates, but if it's not critical, and V8 can handle it, we won't be refining V7 any further.

As for speed and file sizes, V8 wins hands down!

Cheers
Cindy

Turbo_bu in my experience most LLY flashing interruptions result from low bus voltage. Try your procedure with a 2 amp charger on the battery, after you fully charge them.

We have an ECM recovery service if you reach the end of your rope.
