I am new to efilive and Our new cummins truck. I went to Starlites class with brand new efilive and had to run out and buy our 07 5.9 its all stock other than CAI and free flowing exhaust. I started this weekend and built a tune based off starlites stock 5.9 only with 10% more fuel rather than 25%. We tow 10k occasionally and I wanted to start small. If I am in 4th locked up cruising about 50mph and floor it it downshifts to 2nd and starts to pull then it has a hiccup and pulls fuel with a spike and then it ramps back in and pulls hard all the way through. If I lock out O/D and do a pull from similar speed it pulls hard all the way through? I am aso having a difficult time figuring out what PID groups to log? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! -Doug

Hey Doug, glad to see you're finally getting to play with this truck!
I think you missed a few fuel limiters F0517, F0518, F0519, E2536, and maybe E2543.
Also, copy F0505 to F0506.
Your fuel pressure table D0782 is still "spikey", should manually smooth it out so there isnt the huge hump around 30mm3 and 1400rpms to 85mm3 and 2400rpms. Then copy that across all of the Air Density tables (at least for now to get the tune setup).

Thanks Eric, I left my fuel pressure table kinda spikey on purpose thinking maybe it is that way to help with lighting the turbo? The other limiter tables I don't think zach mentioned making any changes for a stock 5.9? I will review the books though. I made a couple of changes from the gift tune posted as well. Thanks for the input and I will look over everything again.

To spool the turbo, you retard timing, or add fuel with the 3rd injection event in the lower rpms. You can do this manually by setting timing in the main table/3rd injection amount table, or adjust the boost adjust tables for the timing and 3rd event to give you this control. The second option is the more difficult as you will need to rescale the axis on those maps and will take longer to dial in more than likely.
If it was me, I would start with the 50/50 split, zero out the 3rd event, tune out the haze, then retard the timing (or try adding the 3rd event in) where you want to build boost quicker. But I have more experience with a LBZ duramax so there could be quicker ways to achieve your results on the cummins.
also, do some reading on the effects of pilot injection. There is some good stuff out there and honestly pilot timing and amount is just as crucial as main timing when you start dialing in your cruise areas for mpgs.

I found another thread by Billybob that has a log from his 06 manual truck doing the same thing as my 07 auto. Mine will only do this if in 4th and it downshifts to 3rd then it has this defuel spike. It will do it every time but only if it downshifts from 4th to 3rd, not if I start in 3rd and floor it then it pulls right thru with no defuel? Anarchy recommended a change to E3255 Boost axis table and Billybob said it fixed his? Les from silverbullet says he has never had to change E3255 and said its something else but didn't give any other details?
