View Full Version : PID selection, V7 vs V8

Alright, so when I bought EFI Live, my vendor included a "free" datalog tune with it. I'm not sure i'll ever run it permanently, because that defeats the purpose of buying the software, but seeing what an expert does could be priceless for my own learning. I am ready to do my log now, and the vendor sent me a .pid file to use to select which PIDs he wants. I do not own a laptop, therefore everything i do is standalone(bbx). I've figured out that V8 does not use a .pid file, it uses the options.txt file. V7.5 uses the .pid files. I've also figured out how to create my own PID list in V8, but not all the PIDs are the same(or maybe just the name, so I can't find it; ei. calc.power_rw). I am aware that i can create my own calculated PIDs, but i'm not sure i'm ready for that yet. I connected my FS2 to the desktop and opened V7.5 and the .pid file, where the manual says I should be able to "Program selected PIDs to Flashscan", but that option is greyed out. Is that option no longer available for standalone logging via V7.5? Can i use the .pid file with my FS2 configured for use with V8? Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi

Can you post a screenshot of this:

What V7/V8 software build version do you have installed...?

From the V7 scantool, from the PIDs tab you can do Edit->Copy for export to V8

and in V8 S&T, from the BBx page, on the Scan tab, you can select a pid list and paste the pids.

I have the FS2 connected as the L31 controller in this pic, but it looks exactly the same as FS only. Newest builds of all programs. Checked yesterday.

I did the copy for export, and then brought them over to V8. That is definitely what i need to do, I'd say, but i'm still missing 2 PIDs. "Air mass per cylinder" and "Power at rear wheels" Compare V8 screenshot to V7.5.

That "Program selected PIDs to FlashScan" is for programming FSV1 BBL (not FSV2).

To program BBL pids to FSV2 you need to use V8 S&T (goto BBL, goto Scan tab, edit/create/delete pid lists, Save, Program All).

That "Program selected PIDs to Flashscan" is for programming FSV1...

for FSV2 use V8 S&T (goto BBL, goto Scan tab, edit the pidlists and pids to suit your PCM, click Save, click downarrow, click Program All).

You can find "airmass per cylinder" (DYNCYLAIR or DYNCYLAIR_M or CYLAIR_M) in the yellow section "Available Pids" (expand Manufacturer Defines Pids).

"power at rear wheels" is a V7 scantool calc pid...

calc pids don't appear on the V2 LCD while logging, but they appear in the log file, they can be viewed in the V7 scantool by selecting (and calc pids can be added into a log after it was captured as long as you logged all the dependent pids for that calc pid).

Also, when the bargraph on the bottom left (above the Open and Save buttons) turns red you have too many pids.

Dude, thanks for the help. I had not idea the FS1 could even log black box. I think that I'll be able to get there now. I'm having a hard time making heads or tails out of some of the manuals, as I'm not sure what has written for FS1, FS2, or AutoCal. I definitely have to spend more time reading.

The manuals are out-of-date (and for V1).

Later today I'll locate some links for the V2 stuff.

I should have all the manuals with the software. I think it's the mixing of formats that threw me off. I'll get reading, and inferring what I can. Thanks again. The quick replies are awesome!
