View Full Version : how to make an LLY bench harness?

Alright I have all the parts. Got an ALDL/DLC/OBD2 port out of a wrecked blazer, got TCM connectors, and just got an ECM C1 connector for 30 bucks at the dealer.

Now I just need to know how to wire them together. EFILive talks on Class II, not J1939 CAN right? SO I dont need to worry about the CAN/J1939 wires on the TCM and ECM connectors right? I think I only need to do the Class II wires. What wires are what on the ALDL port? I dont have a schematic for that so I dont know whats power, data, ground etc... As I said I hvae ECM and TCM pinouts, but I dont know which wires hook up where on the ALDL port so my bench harness will work.:frown:

Any ideas Ross or Paul? :help:

Ben

Here is the message that has just been posted:

LLY only

OBD2/ connector Blue ECM connector

Pin 2 Pin 16=serial data
Pin 4+5 Pin 8=ground
Pin 16 Pin 5=battery

Works for me. Use at your own risk. :D

I saw Trippin posted this....but on my ECM charts, it shows Pin 8 as being LOW REFERENCE. Pin 9 is ground... also dont you need switched ignition wires hooked up so you can wake up the ECM??

I was going off some notes and wanted to reverify on my ECM before I left it up there. Something bugged me about it after I posted it so I deleted it.

LLY only

OBD2/ connector --------Blue ECM connector

Pin 2 --------------------Pin 16=serial data
Pin 4+5 ------------------Pin 8=ground
Pin 16 -------------------Pin 5+ Pin 10=battery

So once again I have many reflashes using a harness built around this. Use at your own risk. :D

Technically, ECM pin 10 is the Ign feed.

alright so If I want to have a fancy switch on there I can just switch the battery+ wire right? I dont need to switch the IGN wire?

thanks Trippin!!!

btw I got that C1 connector at the dealer...30 bucks haha.. I get a lot of my parts there so the guy gave it to me at his cost so that was good. Im making a master bench harness...radios, amps, IPC's, ECM's, TCM's.

...anyone know the pinouts for the TCM bench harness? :D

Ben,

Can you give me the connector part #?

I have the TCM pinouts at home. I'll post them tonight.

FYI,

I can't take credit for this pinout info. It was provided to me by some very intelligent people at EFILive.

Trippin heres the ECM connector part number. This is a GM part number. SI2000 has the Delphi part number. It took some digging at the dealer to find the actual GM part number.

LLY ECM C1 BLUE connector: 88953346

about 35 bucks at the dealer

As far as TCM connectors, I dont know the GM part number. I pulled mine out of a wrecked Blazer for free. It just so happens that some of the Blazer PCM connectors are the same as the Ally TCM connectors.

88953346 connector should work for the both LB7and LLY ECM? :?

I tried to get the part number from the dealer and had no luck. If this will work this will be great.

Trippin,

Do you have the pinouts for the LB7 ECM?

Not sure if this is correct pinout.

Pin 19 = Ign
Pin 20 = 12v
Pin 58 = Data
Pin 60 = Gnd

The connector you can get here http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm for $23.58. :notacrook:

The LB7 and LLY are different ECM connectors. Same TCM connectors.

Does anybody know is this is the same blue connector needed for a LS1 bench harness?

Thanks

LB7

I purchased a very nice premade harness. Near as I can figure these are the designations.

Blue connector

Pin #1 and #40------------------Ground
Pin#20 and Pin #57---------------Batt
Pin#19---------------------------Ign
Pin#58---------------------------Serial

Revised Pins 19,20 and 57 based on my GM service manual.:D

Is that the GM part #? Just checked GM parts direct and 12191488 was no found.

That's the number from my GM service manual.

Looks like it's Delphi.

I'm new here but I've read that a few of you have gone to salvage yards to get conenctors, go to Delphi's distributor for connectors. Power & Signal.
Visit: http://www.powerandsignal.com/

Their policy is that they can mail up to 25 samples per order, that is if your a company? You can also purchase crimpers, terminals, seals.......

Hope this helps.

Well, I sucessfully built a bench harness, have a TCM connector, need to find an LLY ECM connector still, anyway, for testing, I used a Werker 7.5Ah Sealed battery, and hooked my meter in to read current. The TCM drew .365 Amps during reading and powered on. Turn the "ignition" off, and it drops to .265A, then ~30 seconds later, drops to nil (when the TCM turns off). Not a very high current. So for normal use, should I get a new 7.5Ah sealed battery and use that, or should I use the "Wall Wart" AC Adapter that delivers 12.53VDC with no load, and is rated to deliver 3A? Or should I go out to Radio Smack and get a 13.8VDC 3A Power Supply?

I got myself a Speartech LS2 bench harness, with a little modification it can be used for the LS2, LLY and a few others (5cyl PCM).

Neat harnesses, but WOW... not cheap. My whole deal has cost me like $20 so far, and it's really not much different than those overall. But then I like to build stuff.... Are there any other vehicles out there that use the same connector (Blue C1) as the 04/05 LLY?

SinisterSS - Pretty cool power supply. I'll have to keep that in mind...

Plenty of other vehicles use that plug from 4cyl, 5cyl, V6, but, the pinouts are different so it is necessary to install a little switch box.

Ross

Pinouts are no big deal... Since I would only be using it on my LLY ECM, I would re-pin the connector. What years/models? I'm assuming circa 2004 and up?

So far, the only ECU I've confirmed has the same connector is the 2004 3.8L Grand Prix. The ECU looks identical tot he LLY ECM from the outside... Are they the same hardware inside? Could they be programmed with an LLY OS?

In case anyone's interested, per my local dealer's parts dept, the Blue C1 connector can be found on the following vehicles (but not limited to these):

2003-2005 Cavalier
2004-2005 Monte Carlo
2004-2005 Grand Am
2004 (and I'd assume 2005) Grand Prix
2005-2007 Cobalt
2005-2007 G7
2005 Corvette

Here's mine as it is now. I can read/flash 97+ LS1, E40 LS2, LB7, LLY, P12, 5 speed and 6 speed Allison. I plan to add a connector for T42 and one or both of the other LS2 ECMs. Battery is a 7.2Ah sealed battery, which is in the larger box on the bottom. There is a jack on the side of the smaller box to connect a maintainer up to keep the battery fully charged.

Where did you get the battery? I like your set-up. Small and compact.

I got the battery and maintainer from Batteries Plus. It's this (http://www.batteriesplus.com/p-32635-werker-12v-75ah-agm-battery-with-250-terminal.aspx) one.

The nice thing is I can toss it in my bag and take it into U-Pull-It yards and check to see if a prospective ECM powers up and gives data.

I dont suppose you have enough parts to make another one of those? I would buy a setup like that if you did. Let me know.

I thought we could lock the ECM.

We can,

The bench harness allows you to flash or read an ecm that is not in a vehicle.

Commercial tuners like myself use the bench narness to flash the ecms's prior to shipping them.

What is the GM part number for the pins / terminal ends used in the LLY harness connector? Guy gave me a part number of 15356826 but my parts man can not find it. The LBZ numbers I have all reference a bin number. I was told that these were the same as what is used for the DSP 5. Thanks!
