Very Noobie Questions

Hi Guys,

Well I have read a few tutorials and played around a bit and I am getting there but I have a few basic questions:

Do people use v8? I don't understand v8. Do I need both versions or can we just run version 7? Do people use both v8 and v7 and use the scan tool feature of v7 and the graphs v8? We have hooked up obd 2 scanners before I don't understand why we can't scan?
