I'm working on an 06 5.9L Automatic. I have a used ECM from an 07 5.9L Manual. My question is could I change the calibration on it to work for an automatic transmission? Also are any of the Cummins ECMs interchangeable such as 03 to 05 and the 6.7s or do they have to be exact? Any knowledge on this would really help.

Yep just flash in a auto cal and change the vin and your good to go.

Yes it must be a CMB849 ECM from a 06-07

Thanks for the heads up. Does the same apply for the 6.7L's? I will test the 5.9L and post my results.

Thanks again 2007 5.9.....

Ok. I tried twice. I flashed 2 ECMs that were originally MT to AT. I wrote my VIN and tested both. On both ECMs i got the same results. They both started with no misfires but had issues with the transmission. I was able to go in reverse and when I put it in drive it would take off in 2nd gear. What are your thoughts.

Thanks,

To bring up an old thread, if I'm sourcing an ECM for a future conversion, am I better off with an Auto or Manual ECM, or does it matter? The 'planned project' will likely be a Manual, but auto is not out of the question yet.

There are one or two wires missing from the TIPM to power the valve body on an original manual truck. Best thing to do is go with a Suncoast PCS controlled valve body and just run a manual tune file in the truck. I have done this on a couple trucks already and the pcs shifts way better then the factory setup anyways IMO
