So the Aust. Gov't is able to justify spending tax payer money to provide cops with hotrods...

quoting from url posted by Mike above:

Officers primarily use the V8-powered machine for public relations purposes. The car is often displayed at events including V8 Supercars and drag race meetings.

Police in Sydney have used a range of cars for PR purposes including a Porsche Panamera (http://news.drive.com.au/drive/motor-news/nsw-police-get-a-porsche-20120920-2693l.html), Lotus Exige and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.

NSW highway patrol has been criticised in the past (http://news.drive.com.au/drive/motor-news/police-flex-muscles-on-the-highway-20121225-2bv83.html) for ordering high-performance versions of local sedans that cost more than regular V8 or turbocharged models.

Lol, they use those hotrods for PR exercises... do the ticket-writers really think they can endear the public...?

And they have time to do PR exercises instead of chasing real crims...?

I tend to keep my head down, so I miss a lot of stuff (or it misses me)... here in US we don't see much non-US impacting news.
