View Full Version : Looking for L18 8.1 stuff...

Buddy has a 95 4x4 Tahoe that we're putting an 8.1 Gen 3 L18 into, hooked up to an NV4500 manual trans/transfer case.

I've looked at the holden tune file depot for two tunes with the same OS so I can segment swap but I'm not having any luck...

I think? all the actual L18s were DBW even back in '01, I know this is a rare bird but any help is appreciated in trying to get a tune for his Tahoe. We have the parts to run DBW or DBC if we want to, I'm figuring DBC for ease of install.

Currently I'm making a 4x4 LQ4 DBC manual trans tune from a camaro with the segment swap procedure, not sure if it will work with the L18 though. I'm thinking as far as the 0411 is concerned, a Gen 3 LQ4 pinout is the same as a Gen 3 LQ4.

Any help is appreciated, thanks guys.

Mike

Double checking the pinout of the 99-02 LQ4 vs the 01 L18 to see if they match on everything except the TAC/DBW stuff in the L18.

So they're identical which makes somewhat sense; I've heard the Denali (or at least some) had DBW in 01 and 02.
Ok, so that's cool, but I'm not seeing 'Electronic Throttle' anywhere in Tune Tool for the '02 12212156 LQ4 tunes. How do I get the DBW stuff active in the 0411 12212156 OS?
Thanks for any help.

Just compared an '02 vette 12212156 with the LQ4 12212156 and the vette has all the error code stuff enabled for TAC/ACC Pedal position stuff so that makes sense since all the vettes were DBW after 98 I think.
The tunes appear almost the same on the outside; the LQ4 tune has all the TAC/ACC pedal error codes disabled... If I enable the error processor enablers and MILs for the pedal and Tac module is that all I need to do to get DBW working? I know this is a ton sh*t I'm dropping on everyone lol

I think the DBW will work just fine, however the L18s used different PCM part numbers than the 0411...but that really shouldn't matter because the 0411 can run DBW (e.g. '02 vette, '02 denali).
So it looks like to get a DBW 8.1 L18 manual trans working in my buddy's 4x4 tahoe, I need to segment swap the '02 manual vette into the '02 4x4 LQ4, then enable all the TAC/Acc pedal stuff in the diagnostics/MIL section and then change VE, IFR, Spark for the 8.1's numbers.

Anything I'm missing?

2004 (1Mb LS1-B PCM) is the only year that I can think of, when the 8.1L used an OS where manual segments are readily available.

And Yes, all 8.1L were DBW.

Thanks Taz.

Have any pointers on where to find one of those? Which operating system are you talking about? No 2004 L18 tunes in the Holden tune file area. throw me a bone, sir!!! haha

You didn't look thoroughly on the tunefiledepot website ... there is a 2004 GMC Sierra L18 8.1L tune ... uses OS12587603. This OS was also used by 2004 Corvettes, which provides the manual transmission segments (calibration & diagnostic) that you will require.

have the opportunity to read a couple '01 8.1/ZF6 and '01 8.1/5spd Ally trucks this week, I'll post the tunes up on here for whoever might need them. Should be the 512k 0411 P01 compatible calibrations.
