View Full Version : COS 3 not responding to VE map changes

I'm running an LR4 4.8 with SD 80lb injectors at 58psi with a referenced fpr , LS6 manifold and stock camaro exhaust manifolds. I just put COS 3 on it and failed the MAF and unplugged it. It was idling in the 10s and after I removed about 45% from all cells associated with idle the best I can get is mid 11s. The car cruises at 14.7 and WOT is 12.5 to 13. The 105 kpa column responded to the changes I made as it was initially in the 11s at WOT. I would think even if the injector data I'm using was wrong a 45% change would do more. Am I missing something? Also, is there a different pid list I should use for auto building a VE table with the MAF out of the picture? It's telling me I should be using values that I know aren't sane like 0.050 @ 3000rpm and 105kpa. Any help I get would be greatly appreciated. I need to get issues like this ironed out before I put the turbo on the car. Thanks in advance.16946

In C6001 you have P0103 set to 2-Trips... set it to 1-Trip and verify that at MAF DTC triggers immediately.

BTW:
A0001, A0002, A0012, A0013 are out-of-range...
set them to in-range values...
there's a little quirk in the tunetool that only saves the file if the displayed cell values have changed...
so to set those cells to in-range values, do this:
- set them to max-1,
- save file,
- exit tunetool,
- restart tunetool,
- set those to max,
- save file.

You aren't going into SD mode straight away.
Set C2904 to 1, so that the DTC triggers the first time you are out of range. Then put your VE table back to where it was.
Since you have the MIL turned on for P0102 , in C6002, you will be able to see the engine light come on to confirm the MAF has failed.

I'm using Siemens Deka 80lb injectors and my fuel pressure regulator is manifold refrenced. I'm running 58 psi of fuel pressure.

I changed the tables that you both mentioned and fixed the out or range tables but it's still idling in the 10s. I also verified that it is throwing a dtc for the MAF. Any suggestions?

Log IBPW & make sure it isn,t flat lining at a set value. If it is make sure you lower B9021. (If you haven't got this parameter get it from the cax section)

it sounds like the injectors are on the default min pulsewidth allowed by the ECM, ive had this happen a lot on stock cars/smaller engines with big injectors, like said above apply the .cax for the minimum transient pulse width, it will show up in the parameters menu under injectors....knock it back by 50% or so and it will lean right out......keep in mind your 45% leaner VE in that spot is more than likely incorrect right now you will probably have to put most of that back in

I did set the fuel pressure to 58 psi with the vacuum hose removed. I just did some reading on the hole ".cax" topic and It seems like that should do the trick. I know I would probably have an easier time with less fuel pressure but before I sold my dyno I watched one of the tuners that rented out my shop spend hours experimenting with different fuel pressures on different vehicles and he would usually make the best power at a higher fuel pressure. He would normally end up around 70 psi. I didn't get to do much testing on my own car but I would imagine I would end up with better atomization at 58 psi instead of 40 something.

16952When I copy the .cax file into the calibration folder I get the error in this screen shot. I also tried changing the file extension to .txt and I had the same error.

Which .cax file did you use. Since Efilive added some calibrations that are available in some of the cax files, this error prevents a duplicate table being added. Find the cax file in the stickies in the cax section that only defines B9021.

I just used cax a from the link you posted and I still get errors. I used a different cax file to begin with and it seems to have vanished from the configuration folder. Maybe I should reinstall efi live and try again. I searched for the original cax file that I used and even included "hidden" files in the search criteria but it's just not there.

The info in that link did it! Thanks to everyone for helping me out. If it wasn't for this forum and the helpful people on it I would have a MUCH harder time with all of this. I'll see if I can get a lean idle in the morning. It's 1 AM here...

The car still idles in the 10s... I halfed the minimum pulse width, changed the ve table again, took fuel out of the commanded afr. One thing worth noting is that the car idles in the 14 for a few seconds when you first turn it on whether its hot or cold and then drops right back into the 10s.

I'm not getting "sane" numbers on my BEN correction maps. 5,000 rpm and 100kpa might read .011 or something close and the lower the rpm/kpa the closer the values are to my actual ve table. This started as soon as I went to speed density.

You may have to play around with A0014 and A0008 to achieve the desired results, seems I had the same problem with a stock setup and that is how I resolved it.

Here is a screenshot of the insane values that I'm getting and check out the ve table that's actually working for my car. To me the ve table looks terrible but this is what gets the car to run well. I'm still unsure of the injector characterization values I'm using but it's like pulling teeth finding proper values. Once again thanks to everyone for helping me with this. I know you are all busy people and you by no means owe me anything.

VE does look pretty ordinary, but it'll never run nice with B3647 the way it is - apart from 2 cells, it hasn't been fixed up since you converted to a COS.
You've mentioned the AFRs you're getting, but you need to look at what it is you are commanding.
BEN numbers certainly look wrong, but it's difficult to offer any further analysis or insight without a log. Can you past the log that made that map?

16989Your calculated VET map looks wrong...
[ take note that this is the calculated VE map (that you paste into B0101), and it is not a BEN map (that you paste-multiply). ]
also post your calc_pids.txt file.
