EFI Live folks, I appear to have broken my RJ12 jack in a freak accident and need to replace it. I'm quite handy with a soldering iron so was curious, are the jacks that solder to the board just a standard piece you can buy from Jaycar/Farnell (Australia) or are they made specifically for the FSv2 casing which means do you guys at EFI Live keep spares and am I able to flick you guys a couple of bucks for a replacement. Or do you guys at EFI Live have a repair service if I sent the unit to you? What's the easiest option? Unit is a couple of years old now so is well out of warranty....

Cheers!
Kris

If you can solder, then the quickest and cheapest option is to replace the jack yourself.

Yeah no probs there. Just need to know where to get a replacement as I got the busted one out and jaycar here doesn't sell the same Jack.

Try contacting SoCal Diesel, they handle FlashScan and AutoCal repairs.

To answer that question, no they are not specially made connectors. They are "off the shelf" components. However right now (Sunday night) I don't have the part number or supplier name to help you track down a suitable replacement. Send me an email tomorrow (paul@efilive.com) to remind me and I'll try and track down where you can source a replacement part.

Try Dick Smith

krisr, you're in the Sydney metropolitan area...?

Paul: Will do. Thanks for that, i'm glad they're not made specifically for you guys. I might need to replace the RJ45 as it wont hold the cable in and I just use a couple of rubber bands at the moment so might end up replacing it while i'm at it.

Statesman: Will do, the nearest Dick Smiths near me are more interested in selling you a TV or cordless phone than true electrical componentry....

Joecar: Yep, sydney metro. More hills district but work in the CBD.

Cheers!

Hey Kris, if you havent already fixed your V2...
If you can get an extended meal break then duck out to David Reid Electronics, 127 York Street. - 9267 1385 (Just behind the QVB)
Back in the day these guys stocked everything that I could ever want/need as far as hard to find components and tools.
I know that they are now owned by DSE/Woolworths, but still operate independently AFAIK and last I checked they were stocking all of the Altronics stuff.
I'd wager they'll have what you need mate.

Good Luck :)

Yep, I have replaced all the connectors on my V2 already, lots of plugging and unplugging over the years. Pretty straight forward on changing them but not for a novice.

Just bumping this up to the top... Paul do you have the part number for the RJ45 connector on the bottom?

Mine has been broken forever, so I took my V2 apart and it looks super simple to replace. If I can save myself 20 minutes of going through datasheets and tracking down the right RJ45 header that would be awesome! :D

Thanks
Ben

Hmmm both of those look to be out of stock at both digikey and Mouser. Do you know if it cross references to any other part number?

Thanks
Ben

Isn't RJ45 the same as a plain ethernet jack...?

Yes, but its just a matter of finding one in the proper form factor that fits the V2 case.

BenOnce they have the cable wires crimped in they fit.

No no I'm talking about the actual (female) jack on the V2 PCB itself...not the OBD cable side.

Just figured I would bump this up to the top...does anyone have a current/updated part number for the RJ45 port on the V2? IE, one that is sold individually on Mouser/DigiKey...

I just ordered a handful of different RJ45 jacks from DigiKey. Looking at the datasheets and taking measurements from the original V2 connector, Im thinking at least one of them will work.

When I get the connectors and have a chance to try them out, Ill post up the part number.

Pretty sure 95501-2661 is what I used for the RJ45 socket.

Ok I found the proper one that is in stock.

A-2004-2-4-LP-N-R

or AE10384-ND

I took my V2 apart and replaced the jack last night, works perfectly now, and now the OBD cable stays in!
