I have a efilive commercial flash scan v2 that had a drink spilled on it. It was immediately turned off and dried. When I tried to use it again it is no longer recognized by my computer. It powers up on both my obd2 port and usb, but when checking ''status'' it says no device connected? How do I get my tool repaired? Ive really gotten myself in a pinch here with a vehicle waiting. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What did you spill on it...?

Did you open the case and dry it out on the inside...?

Where are you located...?

It has void if open labels on it. I guess its not under warranty anymore so no need to worry about that. It was a soda. Tipped over in the console where my v2 was sitting.

Normally as long as it wasn't salt water you can dry off the liquid and everything should be fine.

The display has some lines going through it horizontally also. Its had a couple for a some time, but its substantially worse now. Ill take the covers off and clean it and report back.

It probably still has liquid trapped behind circuit board and under the display (Coke is mildly acidic and conductive).

Open the cover,
remove the circuit board,
use CRC MAF Cleaner (not brake cleaner, not alcohol) to lightly spray both sides of circuit board to remove soda pop residue,
also spray under display, inside connectors, and case;
use Dust-Off canned air to thoroughly blow it dry (including under display);
re-assemble.

LOL, I generally don't allow drinks in my car (this gained me negative points with my wife), nor in my customer's car while tuning.

:)

Lesson learned lol. And thank you very much for the tips. There is a syrupy residue on the board etc. I will get some maf cleaner tomorrow and report back.

So I went about the methods described. I no doubt need to have the display replaced at a minimum, lots of distortion via lines in the screen. But still no luck with the software recognizing the v2. It turns on both when attached to my pc and when attached to the vehicle dlc. The drivers are installed on the pc. The pc sees a connection when the usb is attached. But when I check "status" no v2 is seen.

Using the EFILvie Control Panel, after clicking on [Status], save a trace file using [F8: Trace]->[Save Trace]. Then send the trace file to me at [email protected]

CRC makes an electronics cleaner, MAF cleaner is not recommended for electronics or vice a versa. I have used both and there is a difference.

The trace file shows that the FTDI USB chip in FlashSCan has "lost its memory" and it doesn't know its a FlashScan device. You can try reprogramming the EEPROM chip in FlashScan using the FTPROG application. However if the FTDI chip has been physically damaged then this procedure won't work and the device will need to be returned for repair.

Reprogramming the FTDI USB identification EEPROM in FlashScan and/or AutoCal

Connect FlashScan or AutoCal.
Disconnect all other non-essential USB devices.
Run the FTPROG application: \Program Files (x86)\EFILive\Drivers\Utilities\FT_Prog_v1.12\FT_P ROG.exe (it may take up to 20 seconds for the application to start).
Select menu: "Devices->Scan and Parse F5".
The FlashScan or AutoCal device should be detected. If no device is detected then either the USB drivers are not installed correctly (see https://support.efilive.com/kb_article.php?ref=9411-UHZV-3143) or the FlashScan or AutoCal device is faulty and should be returned to EFILive for repair. If you see more than one device listed, disconnect other USB devices and refresh the display using F5 until only one FTDI device (your EFILive FlashScan or AutoCal) is detected.
Select menu: "File->Open Template Ctrl+O".
Browse to the folder: \Program Files (x86)\EFILive\Drivers\Utilities\FT_Prog_v1.12\Temp lates.
Select the appropriate template file for the attached device.

For FlashScan V1, use the file: EFILive FlashScan V1.xml.
For FlashScan V2, use the file: EFILive FlashScan V2.xml.
For AutoCal, use the file: EFILive AutoCal V2.xml.

Select the Template that was just loaded into the Device Tree by clicking on it.
Select menu: "Devices->Program Ctrl+P" to open the "Program Devices" window.
Click the [Program] button.
Wait for "Finished Programming" to appear in the status bar at the bottom of the "Program Devices" window.
Click the [Close] button.

CRC makes an electronics cleaner, MAF cleaner is not recommended for electronics or vice a versa. I have used both and there is a difference.CRC makes QD Electronics Cleaner and MAF Cleaner, it turns out they are the one and same.

The one to NOT use is CRC Electromotive Cleaner, this strips any coatings off very promptly.
