i would like to update my V2 to the newest version, but cannot find any instructions to do so. I guess my question is, do i plug in my V2 to my laptop at the same time as updating? or do i update to the laptop then somehow transfer that update to the V2?

FlashScan V2 users require both V7 and V8 software. The V8 software manages reading/flashing/logging for your 2011 Cummins and that software also manages the firmware that controls your FlashScan V2. V7 software manages tune editing.

You will find the latest public pre-release software for both V7 and V8 here: https://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?25758-July-08-2015-EFILive-Public-Pre-Release.

Once you have downloaded and installed both softwares, open V8 Scan and Tune to update your firmware (and if necessary your bootblock). Instructions can be found here https://support.efilive.com/kb_article.php?ref=7243-SFGL-2949
