all I know is he tuned it with hp tuners and I need to access these files because hes 1800 miles away and cant tune it correctly. so I bought this program to learn myself but dont want to start at ground zero. which ground zero looks to be where ill have to start. I get a script code $0537 - controller locked with custom key

truck is a 1999 gmc sierra 2wd
5.3 with A thunder racing 220/220 -.551/.551 on a 112lsa
milled 862 heads .032 (stock gaskets)
long tubes with ORY
60 lbs injectors
Mp122HH magnacharged
8-9 psi of boost I see now

3200 stall 4L65E trans
3:73 gears
295/45/20 tires

truck has changed since my last signature update fyi

any help to point me the right way would be great! Im afraid to tune off stock settings and might mess up - just being honest

It was most likely tuned with a 2 bar HPT OS. It will have to be flashed back to stock with HPT and then you can tune it with EFI but you'll have to start over.

Can you ask the tuner to send you the .hpt file from your PCM...?

I can and will- good idea then have someone read it?! I did ask him at one point if I got my hands on a hp tuners would he allow me to make minor adjustments ( gear ratio, tire size ) he said no he can do that and will adjust it when need be- but everytime I ask for something it's a week later he gets to it, then another week goes by before I get it plus paying shipping and handling both ways.

You can download and install HPT... without their cable it runs in demo mode which allows you to view a tune file.

This is what he said - " if i sent the file it won't be compatible.
i'll need you to send in the pcm, so i can unlock it, then you can read it with efi, then it'll be in the correct format for editing."

So I'm going to assume it will be a stock tune file.

So he won't let you have the tune you paid for (in the gasoline world this is not usually the done thing, gasoline tuners usually don't care who sees their work).

I'm going to keep trying, I wonder if he could send me another PCM "unlocked" and try it before I'm out of luck with no tune

Didn't know tunes where big secrets, I only thought they lock it to protect there end if someone adjusts it and try's blaming the original tuner

Diesel tunes are big secrets.

Gasoline tuner can compare against his copy of the tune and can instantly see if someone else made any changes.

He must have your tune file... maybe offer him $50.

So quick question not regarding my tuner releasing his tune to me.

I have a efilive tune on my 02 z71 - I used my buddy's v2 controller- is my vin locked to his device? Is it transferable to mine? I'm at the point where it asks me if I want to PERMANENTLY lock the vin to this controller but I don't want to use one of my credits from when I just bought it

Licenses cannot be relocated from one FlashScan device to another. Once a controller is licensed to a FlashScan, it's on that FlashScan permanently.

You can license the controller to a second FlashScan device, but that will require it's own licensing process.

Cheers

If you flashed your PCM with your friend's V2, your PCM's serial number is linked to his V2, and there is no way to unlink it (i.e. can't be transferred from one V2 to another)

edit: just as Cindy said above.
