View Full Version : Table for Alternator Control

In several LS3 engine swaps I have had to use a license in HPT just to turn on the alternator. How hard is it for EFI Live to add that to E38's?

Not so much hard, it is the time to do it that is always the issue for us. Between the E38 and E67 we support over 100 OS's so rolling it out over all of them isn't a small task. And I can guarantee if we only did it for a handful the next day there would be a request for them to be added in to an OS we didn't do.

Can someone explain what the BCM is doing that the ECM is not? Ls1b controls it right. Why is it different? I see both alt wires going into the ECM just like the ls1b... sorry, it's confusing to me I'd like to learn more since I am currently doing LS3 swap.

You will need to use another software in order to adjust it, efi doesnt have the table.

I have TC and it gives me these options. Do I simply want to disable them?

I use hpt for it and adjust the table in the pic in my first post.

BTW: you can do SHFT-PRTSCR to get a screenshot.

Looking at a stock vette LS3 tune in hpt shows alt remote/override settings disabled and not fitted. LS3 Camaro has them both active.

Did the vette not have BCM charging control with current sensor on the negative cable?

Try disabling some of those...

but you would have to provide battery voltage to the alternator F or L input (via a relay activated by key-on... and a fuse ahead of tne relay), I don't remember which input, look at a wiring diagram for reference.

in a vette the ECM controls the alternator

So using the vette alt settings in the tune the Camaro alternator will charge properly? Same alternator right?

Bringing up an old thread - does anyone know if no BCM causes the alternator to default to 13.8 volts? Or does it default to that once you have disabled BCM control in the tune with another software?

From what I read, the gen4 alternator needs a PMW signal from the BCM, based on a current signal from the negative battery terminal. Doesn't leave many options.

What is very weird is I did a standalone conversion to a e38 harness (battery and ignition wire hookup only) and set the alternator to the vette settings since it did not use BCM to control (from what I have read). Engine runs great without alternator plugged in but when you plug it in the engine will not shut off! It stays running until alt plug is disconnected.
