View Full Version : Moving old Holden Tune parameters to new operating system

Hello All.

I have an operating system (Holden) originally programmed in 2010 with an E38 and T42. This was one of the initial matings of the E38 (todays motor is an LSX 376 crate motor) system using a 4L70E tranny.

After much effort from you all, this was working and performed well for about 6 years.

Recently the computer failed and I put in a new E38 and T42 for a 4 speed from Speartech. It has their stock tune. Since my tune and shifts were all pretty much perfect, I am trying to move the data from the old Holden operating system to todays op systems. (I got the computers today)

The software cannot "compare" the tunes since they are different operating systems.

Can anyone help move the basic tune data from one op system to the next? Is this doable? I hate to start from scratch.

Thanks so much in advance your input and ideas!

Warmest regards,

You have to open 2 instances of the tunetool, one on your old file, the other on your new file...

then for each table, you have to manually copy-with-labels from the old, and past-with-labels to the new.

If you could generate a file with all zeros in it, you could then generate a script to write the differences from zero into your new file.

Thank you very much. For clarification, I select and copy with labels the "description tab" or the "value tab"? I then paste into the new OS tune matching table? That is it?

Appreciate all the assistance for newbie here.

In the alternative, I know this setup is relatively common now.

Anyone have an LSX 376 (Iron not aluminum) E38 Crate tune for OS 12617631 and or
4L70E T42 OS 24239927?

Bosch MAP

What is the original Holden OS for ECM and TCM? Some items may be applicable, some not.

...
for lists of parameters, yes on the Description header immediately above each list.

For 2D and 3D tables, click in upper left blank tile (so the whole table/surface highlights), go rightclick->Copy-with-Labels.

What Joe said Pat, but not knowing what you have in the 12612381 OS, i.e. which areas are revised, best to leave the 12617631 idle & ETC area etc alone. At least initially. As they are different stock/from the factory.

Hard to know really without seeing them. :)

Yes, good thanks, we only had near freezing temperature only one night; it has been warm enough to wear shorts/tshirt during daytime. And it rained a lot so now we're out of drought conditions.

Hello All. Here is the old holden tune copied table by table to the new speartech tune and operating system. LSX 376 mated to 4L70E in one of todays operating systems.

The original speartech barely ran. After I copied the airflow parameters it began dumping tons of fuel which is a problem I previously had (SpeartechMod1). Gas tearing eyeballs. Lol.

Any ideas appreciated and or a decent LSX tune to start with that runs. Lol.

Thanks all in advance. Appreciate your years of assistance here!

Here is the car logged today with the original speartech tune. I ran it stock for safety purposes since the tune changes were so numerous. My car continued with the crazy intake pop at start. I had hoped the new controller would rectify this. The O2 sensors are new (only have bank 1, sensor 1 and bank 2, sensor 1) and the harness was sent in and supposedly tested. However, an issue may still exist.
My current theory is that it is dumping so much fuel into the intake, remnants are exploding at key on before start. So I ran the car as is, which was super rich. Log 1.

Next I ran it with LTFT set from 1.3 and .7 limits to "1" so no change could occur. I also set "engine coolant temp for closed loop" to 256 (Max) from its original -40. The car seems to run normal thus far.

No changes log

Log after tune changes

Any ideas appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.

Log 3 23 2017 orig speartech.efi (https://forum.efilive.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=20869&d=1490280387)
This log shows symptoms of the front NBO2's being crossed/swapped (i.e. left NBO2 trimming right bank, right NBO2 trimming left bank).

Frame 13210 looks like they are cutting out?

Looks like Bank2 goes into CL-Fault mode, this means the ECM may be using Bank1's NBO2 to trim both banks because it detected a fault with Bank2's NBO2...

I don't know how the ECM figured this out seeing that both banks were pegging oppositely.

Also:

GM.IBPW1/2 and CALC.INJDC1/2 are the wrong injector pids for E38...

GM.INJPWB1/2 and CALC.INJDCB1/2 are the correct ones (the DC pids are from the E38 calc_pids.txt that we're working on, see earlier in this thread).

Hello. I cannot seem to locate this in the pid selection files I have on my pc. CALC.INJDCB1/2

Do you have a pid selection file I can use with your preferred pids?

Thanks so much!

Hello all!

Log from today with O2's switched. This is still the original speartech E38 tune. I did get one of your pids changed Joe. Thanks in advance for all the help!

Hi Pat,

The calc_pids.txt file for that is in the E38 Calc.VET Volunteers thread, let me find it...

Hello Joe. Any luck with that PID? I just prefer to use your dashboard since you know what to look at more than myself.

Also besides shutting down the O2's and the LTFT's anything else needed to run open loop in the interim? Eg shutting down STFT's?

Thank you!

Thank you! We're still working on it (statesman and me), it's taking some time due to some things we have to discover (the units of the VVE table) and other stuff (multiple jobs, life, hospital issues...)... but we'll get there soon.

I've been looking thru some E38 files, I don't see any OL STFT settings (like the LS1B)... but, to be on the safe side, make sure that the OL commanded fuel tables (B0141-4) do not contain any stoich cells during OL tuning.

Thank you. What does a "stoich" cell look like?

Appreciate the help.

If tunetool fueling units are set to:
- EQR or Lambda: stoich cells have value 1.00,
- AFR: stoich cells have same value as B3601.
