I have a 2017.5 Colorado. Been trying to access the ecm. GM go with the new security encryption on the E98 too?

Yes, the E98 USA model from 2017 requires controller authorisation to gain access to the ecm.

Before everyone gets confused, the E98 ECM's can still be tuned, they are not locked down like the L5P (E41).
You just need to order a Controller Auth code which gives you the code to be able to unlock the ECM.
