View Full Version : Injector swap in prep for boost

I am working on an injector swap and want to verify my plan for hardware and tuning changes. My plan is to swap the injectors and make sure my AFR stays the same and the car continues to run the same before building my turbo kit. I have run the Auto VE process multiple times and the car runs great. I am still using the MAF and am back in closed loop mode. I bought a set of Decapped E85 Denso EV6 injectors that were flow matched from the injector shop on Ebay. From my research I think the 2006 Tahoe came with these injectors so I downloaded the tune to get stock injector settings (other than flow rate) After looking through the data it seems the only difference in parameters from the Tahoe tune to mine is B3701, B4003, B4004, and B4005. I plan to copy all these from the Tahoe tune to mine and then set the new flow rate in B4001. My question is how do I calculate flow to Manifold Vacuum? Do I even need to or just put my calculated 10.19323 Grams/Second in every field? How does this table change after boost, does it get extended to account for positive MP?

Current setup:
stock 5.3 block with stock 706 heads.
LS1 Intake - stock LS1 injectors.
C5 fuel filter / regulator (I think my Fuel pressure is 58psi, never tested)
My OS is 12212156.

New setup:
stock 5.3 block with stock 706 heads.
LS1 Intake - stock LS1 injectors.
C5 fuel filter / regulator (I think my Fuel pressure is 58psi, never tested)
My OS is 12212156.
Denso EV6 rated at 80.9 lb/hr @ 58psi (10.19323 Grams/Second)

Tuning Changes I plan to make:
Copy Injector pulse width adjustment (B3701) from Tahoe tune to mine
Copy Min injector pulse width (B4003) from Tahoe tune to mine
Copy Default min pulse width (B4004) from Tahoe tune to mine
Copy Small pulse adjust (B4005) from Tahoe tune to mine
So now for the big one (B4001) How do I calculate flow to Manifold Vacuum? Do I even need to or just put my calculated 10.19323 Grams/Second in every field?

OK so I went ahead and made my injector adjustments as follows. Waiting for some electrical connection converters from Ev1 to Ev6 then I will test in the car and post here.

Added Decapped injector Data:
Copied Injector pulse width adjustment (B3701) from Tahoe tune to this one
Copied Min injector pulse width (B4003) from Tahoe tune to this one
Copied Default min pulse width (B4004) from Tahoe tune to this one
Copied Small pulse adjust (B4005) from Tahoe tune to this one (base ms did not match so I copied raw data.
Copied Parameters (B4006) from Tahoe tune to this one
(B4001) Took the diffrence between the Taho stock 0 kPa flow rate and the decapped flow rate of 10.193268 and did MATH lol

Is your FPR referenced or un-referenced (from what you said, sounds like referenced)...?

See this: Calculating-Injector-Flow-rate (https://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?4821-Calculating-Injector-Flow-rate)

Also, do you have data for "Minimum Transient Pulsewidth" (B9021)...?

Edit:

Thanks for the Link joecar, I poked around there and put my numbers in the spreadsheet. My numbers were close but the crude "add the difference" method was not quite as accurate. As an update I received all my injector parts and started the car with my numbers in the tune. It starts and idles nicely cold, once up to temp AFR seems pretty close running about 14.5:1 to around 16.6:1 at idle. I could get it to stumble a little if I did a slight gas pedal bump but it seemed to idle good other than that. I was not able to go for a drive due to time and the weather here in Ohio is crap tonight.

I do not have a B9021 in my OS / tune. My FPR is un-referenced. I have a Corvette c5 style filter / regulator and a LS1 fuel rail with no return. I plan to get the new numbers from the spreadsheet plugged in and do a data log run ASAP. What should I do about pulse widths? Did I do the right thing copying the Tahoe numbers to my tune or should I have just left the stock LS1 pulse info?

Post your tune file, I'll check the IFR table.

IFR is correct based on the first cell (at MANVAC=0) being correct.

rate(MANVAC) = rate(0) * sqrt((400+MANVAC)/400)

where:
MANVAC is the IFR table axis in kPa.
rate(MANVAC) is the rate at MANVAC.

Thanks again Joe. I flashed this tune and the car starts and runs pretty well however every once in a while the idle will drop real low my AFR will go super lean and the car will die. Is this due to the super short pulses needed at idle? Anything in the tune above that is glaringly wrong? Also should I go back to the LS1 pulse widths or did I do the right thing copying the Tahoe numbers to my tune?

One last question I am getting ready to start playing with the Custom OS. What is the difference between the 0202001 and the 0202002, 0202003, 0202005. Are these the differences in the tutorial 01= dual spark map, 02= Dual and Valet option and 03= 2/3 bar. If so what is 05?

The injector tables (all of them) have to follow the injectors to their new home.

Post a log file of the condition occurring.

02020005 has throttle percent VE (e.g. for running ITB's for example where there is no easy MAP signal).

You want 02020003 mostly. You can use 02020005 anyway (I just use this one regardless).
