I have read somewhere that for a stock application it is better to only lock up the converter in 6th gear in a 6L80/90

Is this true?

nope. it's really application/car dependent. i lock up my blown 6.8lt from 4th with a 3500 converter from around 63kph.

stock converters are generally around the 1800rpm for stall speed, so are reasonable tight already.

Thanks, This is in a truck, almost always loaded and owner has a heavy foot but seems to stay under the tp or load that unlocks the converter.

At light to light-medium throttle, lock the TCC in the top 3 gears (generally the TCM will cycle thru the first 4 gears pretty quickly)... in the long run it will extend the life of the ATF and the clutches.

Do you by chance have a calibration I can look at with your suggested adjustments? Would be great to look at one and see it in the rom as a comparison. I have a stock truck 6L80E I am trying to sort out a little bit. Thanks in advance.
