View Full Version : No communication with PCM

November 2nd, 2021, 02:46 PM
Hey guys

Been a loooong time.
Pulled my PCM apart to powdercoat the housing….and somehow in the process I can no longer connect to the PCM via efilive.
I can connect directly to the installed road runner via the usb on the pcb and ‘tunercats’.
Any thoughts?

Hi Howard,

How're you doing, it's been a while.

Are you using V5...? I thought you used V7.

From V7 scantool, connect (round green button), and copy/paste the log text from the log tab.

Gidday mate….it has been a very long time. Lots has happened since I was last here.
Glad to be playing in this pond again.
Yes…using V7. I’ll do as you suggested tomorrow when I get home. thanks
I can flash an OS and Cal to the RR via either EFILive or TC….and can read it and all is good….but still same issue.
Fuel gauge goes off scale (which apparently means no or corrupt cal) and the truck won’t fire….just cranks over.

Where is the ‘log’ tab located? I don’t see it?

You had me for a bit . I thought.. It’s been a while…am I that rusty. I have a screen shot…not sure how to post it?

You can copy/paste from the Console tab to here.

Or if you have a pic of it, click the Insert Image (looks like a tree thru a window).

went over the RR header with a magnifying glass and a meter. found a crack/break in one of the tracks where its soldered to the PCB :hihi:

January 11th, 2022, 12:34 PM

Glad you found it. Did you apply solder to the pcb track to fix it.

Post a pic.

January 11th, 2022, 04:27 PM
Yes mate….sure did
Reckon the pressure of the USB cable on the on board USB socket was twisting the RR header which cracked the track.

Just a tip for you guys who solder small distant spaces like this as well as micros. Solder all 4 corners so the device won't move in the next step. Solder/short the entire connection, do it fast when soldering a micro and let it cool. Heat and drag solder wick soaked in rosin/flux across the terminals to suck up all the extra solder. Practice on something you don't care about if unsure.
When finished, it will look like a machine soldered it.
