View Full Version : 6l80e help with TUTD holding gear

Hello all, I have a 2008 Jeep wrangler swapped with an LS3 and 6l80e supermatic. E38/T43 combo for ecu/tcm. The last bit I need to figure out to get it perfect is the ability to hold the trans in a certain gear. Currently TUTD works like a max gear selector, and no matter how I alter the TUTD shift control tables, it still behaves like that. The OS on the TCM is 24256125 and the ECM is 12639835.

I am assuming the ability to hold a gear with TUTD is in the OS itself rather than in the tune? Can I get any guidance as to if that is correct, and if it is, what kind of OS would accomplish what I'm looking for, and is it compatible with my ECM.

Attached is my current 6L80 tune.

Thanks in advance. 24581

Look at D9602
Thats the first thing i noticed.

If that doesnt work the TCM OS might not work with TUTD.

NOt sure if this helps..

So with d9602 set to enable TUTD doesn’t work at all. I put it in M mode and the switch does nothing. When I switched it to disable is when it allowed me to select max gear as I do now.

From that chart my TCM OS is from an 11+ Camaro and the ECM is from an 11+ truck. My assumption is the 11+ Camaro tcm should be capable of gear holding with tutd. Is that correct?

it Should be.. But do you have a way to see the TUTD inputs from the switchs?

They shift the gear on the dash, from 1-5, but it just acts as a max gear rather than how a manual works holding the gear. Is there another way to check the switch function? I can pull up a scanner and see if they’re on there.

Ive never tried. Just throwing out ideas haha

i have a lot more parameters defined for this os then efi/hpt has now.

how is your tapshift activated? via bcm or some other module or is it hardwire like the corvette?

I have had a sneaking suspicion that a couple of the shift options might not be correct on that os. I use it in a couple of my cars along with 24256025 (flash compatible).

before you try another cal, try adjusting the TUTD (D1004) upshifts to get away from being maxxed out. then for the downshifts put your 6-5 shift at 40mph & do similar for the rest leaving the 2-1 at 0 & report back.

oh & is it running a factory gm transfer case etc or purely rwd with the original jeep transfer with an adapter?

i have changed 1 parameter in this file via a cax file the other 2 changed settings were to turn tutd on as if was controlled via bcm.

test it out.24584

Tapshift is done through a Canbus gateway that was made. I logged the tap up and tap down through efilive and they are coming through properly.

I put the stock ctsv TUTD upshift/downshift table in and still no dice.

It has a jeep transfer case with an adapter.

Tried, wouldnt let me flash. says tune not registered to this autocal device.

any idea if D7010 and D7011 could have anything to do with it? Ive tried them almost every which way, but no real changes to the TUTD behavior.

are you using an autocal or v2/v3 unit?

24587

i dont have any security enabled on the file, but check this version.

Where did your original trans come from & did you perform a full flash it at any time?

Basically there is a factory parameter called Electronic Range selection. It's enabled in your tune.

Basically that being turned on is preventing TUTD from working.

autocal v3.

Still having the same problem. "Script exited with code $0536: Tune file is not registered to this AutoCal device." I see this is because i got the autocal etc from the guy that put my swap together, so its likely locked to his serial number or something. I will try and figure that part out.

The original trans was a crate trans from GM, and it was bench flashed to match the E38 ECM.

Is there a way for me to change the Electronic Range Selection on my end? Or is that something that requires extra software I do not have?

ok ive been told i should try updating all efilive software and autocal firmware and try again. so ill do that and get back to you...

No dice. Still getting that $0536 error, has to be some sort of licensing thing on my autocal.

Sorry to keep responding to my own thread, but this is driving me absolutely nuts.

When you refer to electronic range selecting, are you speaking of the D9601? I have had that as enabled and disabled and it doesnt seem to make any discernible difference in tapshift behavior. D9602 is the one that perplexes me. If it have that set as enabled, when i shift past D into M mode, it just sits in D5, and the tapshift buttons do nothing. If I have D9602 set as disabled, and i shift into M, gear 1 shows up on the display and i can tapshift, however it just acts as the max-gear selector. Does not allow me to hold a gear regardless of throttle position.

u might need to send the tune file to whomever provided the autocal and get them to set the security link.

also how is your shifter setup for positions?
PRNDM ?

If M is D5, then you may need to change D9605 to 5 also.

The Electronic Range is just another parameter switch, but it's not mapped in efilive. I have a cax file with additional settings
24588

I didnt think the autocal allowed for end users to make changes to tunes, but if you can do a compare against a holden/cts-v with the same OS & copy the transmission segment

Ive tried it every which way. It must be this electronic range thing. I sent the tune file you uploaded to the guy that sent me the autocal, so he can hopefully "save for remote flash" and send it back to me.

My shifter is PRNDM, and I did try D9605 as 5, no dice still. Do you have a link to any information about this "cax" stuff. I can probably figure it out if its not proprietary.

once i validate a bunch of those settings, i'll be providing them to the efi guys to implement as standard settings in the software.

writing the cax file is rather simple'ish but understanding/finding the actual parameter switch points etc takes a little time.

Im using v7.5 to test/write the cax files, then i use the built in tools to convert for v8 edit, but if you copy the below into a text file and save as .cax & place it into the 7.5 calibration directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\EFILive\V7.5\Calibrations) you should see the new paramater.

Another parameter worth testing is this. I use it to turn off the requirement for an additional tapshift movement on the 4 detect shifters.

Ok, got those added. Will try this out hopefully tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Thanks again for all the help.

no worries. im actually going to test that range switch now in my car to see what it does to the tapshift function.

ok, so i my car if i enable the parameter is makes no difference, but if i change D9605 from 6 to 4 i lose tapshift. I can still see the request come through but it's ignored.

the shifter in this car however is just PRND, then it goes sideways (holden) to enable tapshift.
