Hey Everyone,

First post here on the Diesel side since I recently picked one up. Loved the first one so much I picked up another one, the 2011, which unfortunately, I think I'll be having a few questions on.

The new to me 2011 is low on power and getting terrible mpg's (running on 35's). My other vehicle, an 06 w/ 35's has much more power and can still get 18mpg. It came w/ the EDGE CTS3 w/ carb legal tunes, so I picked one up for this one. At my age consistency and not having to learn too much is the goal, lol. Anyways, when trying to connect it, it says it can't and when calling support, they are saying it's due to vehicle not having a completely stock/factory tune. The dealership I got it from got it to pass smog and there were no check engine lights, so the assumption was it was stock.

So... can I use EFILive Autocal to flash the stock file?

I've used the older version of EFILive on LS motors so I can use it if it'll work for me. Can I use the AutoCal afterwards to flash in some tunes that'll still allow it to pass CA smog? I'm good w/ flashing back the stock tune if needed, since I would probably only go as far as disabling EGR (keeping it intact) and DPF swaps.

I've been told EFILive can not flash back a stock tune, which is the main reason for this post.

TIA

You can flash back to a stock file with efi tools.

24802Thanks for the response MrGrunzz :thumb_yello:

I'm sure I'm missing something... it'd be great to understand why they are saying it can't and EZLynk can.

So, the EFILive order I've got will have some tunes on it to disable EGR. What will I need to reflash a stock tune before I do that?

It also doesn't sound like they have performance tunes and I was hoping to apply those as well at some point. Can I apply without going through some Unlock procedure?

In the past, all I had to do was select a file and it didn't matter what tuner created it. Seems like things are different now.

Well, first, there's a difference between flashing stock file, vs flashing factory stock. Factory stock returns everything on the ecu to original factory values, all learned data for sensors, maps, pids etc. Flashing stock returns the ecu to a point in time previous to any modification or tune. Flashing a stock file usally is accomplished by using the original file that was already in the ecu to put it in "Stock" values. If your device has the option to take a read from your ecu, then that would be your stock file, and that file you save it somewhere safe to return it to ORIGINAL stock after a tune. If your device doesn't have the compatibility to read the original file and you flash a tune, then there most like isn't a way to return to original stock, BUT, one can use a generic file from a simillar controller and just add the vin number on top of it to return to the original values, it may have a slight change due to variations of the OS that will be used to accomplish that goal.

If that 2011 3500 was returned to stock using this "generic stock file" then it most likely wont allow other devices to work with it. Say Mpvi3, Flashscan v3, mm3,Ezlynk and many others.
If you need FACTORY stock which I believe Ezlynk is asking for, then take it to a dealer and ask them to flash your ecm for you.

I don’t think there was anything I read here that made any sense at all
