View Full Version : Hello from Europe! Experienced Holley EFI user trying out HP Tuners

Hi there!

My name is Sam and I have been tuning a few cars with Holley EFIs over the past couple of years. The Holley EFI conversions are really great, I absolutely love them, but they are not cheap and there are quite a few setups where I would like to run the 0411 PCM (drive by cable, one coil and fuel injector per cylinder).

I have an HP Tuners module, that I bought for my C6 a while ago, and I want to use it to program 0411 PCMs (VATS delete, etc.)

I have come across this video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMRI5YLEQX4

This guy has made a harness and box to easily write and read the 0411. Same here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7qd2tXhO0M

Full of Questions right away:
Can I buy such a harness and box somewhere?
Does anyone have a nice wiring diagram?
Can I use the HP Tuners module for this purpose, also with some other software?
Can I use EFI Life software for this?

Thanks!

I saw your post over on HP forum.

Yes these harness are available all over the internet.
You can use HP or EFI for this.

Thanks! Well I am sort of new to this / so would appreciate a link to a harness that does that.

Both softwares, HP and EFI - require you to pay for every VIN? This is sort of difficult because the project cars I have here have would be retrofitted with the 0411s.

Yes.
Every PCM/ECM will need to be licensed before being able to flash any type of tune to them.

Okay, few questions.
How does that pricing structure compare between EFI LIVE and HP Tuners?
Then, some 0411s come without any VIN encoded, how do I go about that?
Thanks

EFI is $1025 (comes with 2 licenses) and its $125 for a license to tune a PCM.

HP is $400 and is $50 per credit. Some PCM take 2 credits, other ECMs take 6-10 credits.
HP if you want to change the OS to another OS its another 2 credits or 4-10 credits.

So if all you want to do is tune LS1 PCMs, its $1025 for EFI that has 2 licenses already (able to tune 2 PCMs). Or for HP is $400 plus $200 to be able to tune 2 LS1 PCMs

To be able to add on to the HP interface you will need a $250 prolink to have input capabilities.

if the pCM is blank, it will need to be loaded with a file from GM thru the TIS with a MDI or Tech 2.

if the pCM is blank, it will need to be loaded with a file from GM thru the TIS with a MDI or Tech 2.Also, at least with EFILive, it's not the VIN that's used, but instead the controllers serial number. Calling it a 'VIN License ' is somewhat misleading.

That is true. With EFI once you license that PCM you can do what you want with it.
WIth HPT if you want to change the vin or OS or anything like that, They make you use credits for the VIN file and the Other VIN file you want to use.

Okay, a tuner around the corner here is flashing these 411s with the same VIN, and is using the same license to modify them all. Unsure what the legal situation is, unsure what software he is using, but I know 100% that this is possible and that this is being done. I do want to pay for a license though, not wanting to scam anyone.

There must be a person here in the forum who is able to figure out what is done to achieve this?

Thanks

OK, just called the guy and asked him. His reply:

You can change VIN with PcmHammer, it is included in
Universalpatcher-Full.zip

- Change VIN with PcmHammer

- Read PCM with PcmHammer

- Disable anti-theft (VTD) with UniversalPatcher (and some DTC codes)

- Write modified bin with PcmHammer

There are "Free" ways to go about doing what you want.
One is with the PCM hammer and Universal patcher. But if you are chaning the camshaft and such then using those to tune with take a absolute ton of patience.
With EFI/HPT your getting a really nice scanner with ways to make graphs with corrections and such.
If you want to try Universal Patcher or Tuner Studio then you will understand really quick.
