View Full Version : I try to do a crank relearn and it doesn't work

When I bring up the relearn screen and hit start. I raise the rpm up, but the rpm climbs all the way up to redline (7000 rpm) and doesn't stop at 5000 like the directions say it will. I've tried it several times and it hasn't worked. Any suggetsions would be great. Thanks, Brian

How fast are you bringing the RPM's up? You need to do it in a fairly quick manner.

I was trying to spread the rpm rise over the 10 seconds so maybe that is my problem. I thaught I tried it fast once, but I may not have. I'll try that when I go home for lunch today. Thanks

Here is the P1336 it mentions http://www.ls2.com/boggs/dtcs/DTC%20P1336.htm

I think it does have that code stored. I tried to reset the codes and do it again, but the code comes back as soon as I turn the car on again after I reset the code. I know the code that comes up for the crank not being learned is not on the list of unacceptable codes in EFILive for the crank relearn. Thanks a lot, Brian

I guess my next question is how do I reset that code so that I can perform the relearn before the code comes back. Thanks, Brian

Here's an interesting one -- I'm having trouble getting the crank relearn to work on my 1998 Formula, because whenever I rev the throttle it picks up a false VSS signal!! If I keep blipping the throttle in neutral, I can get the car "moving" 30 MPH ... The car has ALWAYS done that, even when it was bone stock.

I haven't done one in a while, but as a I recall, the PCM only shuts off the injectors for a split second. It will feel like a stumble and that's when you need to let off.

Try monitoring PID GM.PRND. EFILive is looking at this PID to perform the crank relearn and has to be in parking or neutral. C1 pin 32 and 34 has to be grounded to force it into park or neutral.

Man, I still can't get this to work on my 2000. This is really pissing me off. I follow the directions exactly and no-worky.

Make sure that scan all cable types and select controller are checked in the scan tool properties.

Already set that way. Thanks for the tip though.

This may be common knowledge but I assume all of you, when trying to do a crank learn, have the parking brake set and your one foot on the brake pedal and then hit the gas with the other pedal.

The ECM/PCM needs to see that the parking brake is on and the foot brake is on. The Tech 2 clearly tells you that when doing a crank learn. I haven't done one with EFILive so I don't know if it tells you those things.

As a side note, if you build a custom vehicle or engine swap and want to be able to do crank learn, you need to put the wires into the harness for the parking brake switch and the foot brake switch or the ECM/PCM won't let you do a crank learn.

I assume everyone is also waiting until the correct engine temperature has been met to enable the crank learn function to be performed.

Sorry if everyone is already aware of these items.

Jason, good point.
