Great write up Marcin!

I was looking over the files you sent Friday and was close to asking for a lot of the explainations you provided in the blog.

Good luck on your thesis. I'll try to hold off on the tarded questions while I apply your findings to my tune.

Just following this guide with a few alterations (didn't get the harness, was provided with a 3 wire hand made version). All has gone well. Yet to test it out, that is tomorrow job.

Am worried as the sensor is a lot longer than the bung out of my Aeromotive regulator so don't want to wind it in too far and damage the reg. Also assume I'm going to have to go find some tape to seal it up like was on the original bung.

TAQuickness
January 18th, 2007, 02:12 AM
I don't think you want to use tape on the fuel system. I believe liquid sealant is what you want to use.

Got pic of your install?

Was thinking of doing pics but my PCM isn't in the factory location so didn't worry too much, and it was dark :) Will pull the camera out this afternoon after work and take a few.

got the sender mounted yesterday and went to plug it in. As soon as you plug it in and go to turn the key on the PCM throws a error code saying the TP Sensor is low voltage. Tried to start the car and it ran like a pig.

Have followed the guide and connected to EGR. Have enabled EGR in the tune and confirmed I get 5V to the plug. PCM is a 1999+ in a Holden Commodore.

Has anyone else successfully connected using the EGR method in a Holden Commodore?

Have checked and am using the correct pins as described in the tutorial but as soon as I plug into the FP sensor I get a DTC error code thrown relating to low voltage on the TP (Throttle Position) sensor.

Did you tap in on the blue connector or the red? Should be Blue, unless your PCM is different from the 99's here in the US.

Hello all,
I am just about done with my FPSU project. I am using an Autometer 2246 just like in the tutorial. I am using the EGR connection right by the oil cap on the passengers side (fbody). I got the wrong autometer pig tail connector for the sending unit. I did notice that it (the sending unit) is exactly like an ECT sensor plug. I have an extra ECT sensor pigtail but I don't have the sending unit's pinout. All the tutorial says is
Red = 5vdc
Black = grnd
ppl = 0-5v sig

This is fine if you have the orignal autometer connector. If anybody can help tonight it would be great. I am loading up the trailer for the track tommorrow and would love to have some track FP data to log.
TIA

I have and it works as advertised. I suppose you could use any 0-5vdc pressure sensor with the proper range. The autometer isn't expensive though.

Don't bother with the pigtail. Just goto your dealer and get a 98 ECT sensor pigtail. You don't need the length of the autometer harness- well you should'nt if you are planning on using the existing EGR wiring.

I was not sure if I just wanted to wire straight to EFILive or go thru EGR wiring. It looks like the EGR might be the best way. My car is a 2001 without EGR.
What do you think Doc?

Yeah Bill, I was thinking of that when I left off last- 2001 no egr.(Busy putting in my motor right now) No worries. You can still run the wires from the pcm it'self. The EGR option is the easiest to take advantage of a power supply and voltmeter on a system that is not used on your car.

I agree! The EGR for the 5V supply works great and data feed for the EGR volts set to a custom PID is beautiful!

Is the wiring harness already wired for the EGR or will I need the pins and wiring? What size pins are in the PCM connector? I have not looked at the PCM yet.

Just got the sender and harness in. My wires are different collors than what is in the tutorial. I have a purple and a black and gray. The purple should be the 0-5vdc signal. I assume the black is ground and the gray is +5vdc. Does that sound right?

In Australian cars are the wires there already or do the connectors with wires need to be put in ie. are they vacant.

You have to add the wires for the EGR output to be used.So yes they are vacant.
I got a couple of PCM plugs from a Automotive Dismantler to obtain the wires.

I've had no issues using this method.

All the holdens with LS1's i have done, i make up a harness & plug it in to the egr pins on the pcm ,turn on the egr (B1301) load the cal pids and start loging

The auto meter sender looking at the plug is wired

earth pin A .......power 5 volt pin B

............output pin C

I just logged mine at the track with 155 dry shot of Nitrous. The FP went down slowly as rpms build to as low as 39psi :), it drops smoothly under any load. My car would have a bit over 600rwhp with a shot that size.

we have come up with this...
sender/pigtail to egr harness

OK...someone on LS1TECH caught this before you guys...

I was looking at the plug end of the pigtail the same as the sender's pin out, which is incorrect because it is actually a mirror of the sender...

The CORRECT connections are:
sender/pigtail to egr harness

Grey (gnd) to purple (gnd)

Blk (+5vdc)to grey (+5vdc)

Blue (0-5 signal) to brown (0-5 signal)

If you can log voltage through the EGR and you can get the slope & intercept to convert
voltage to FP, then yes.

Can anyone see why this sensor wouldn't work instead of the autometer 2246.

(J.C. (240)P399AAC-1C PRESSURE TRANSDUCER O TO 100 PS1S) can be found on ebay for less than $60 and bolts directly to the schrader valve port without removing the valve - no need for adapters. Its advertised as being designed for measuring refrigerant pressure but the literature says it can be used with any non corrosive fluids.

Here are the specs
http://www.vikingcontrols.com/_documents/Product/125515.PDF

Do most people permanently install their sensor or remove it after they are finished logging fuel pressure?

Tordne
September 6th, 2010, 06:41 AM
Looks like the 1/4 in. SAE one might be correct. From my reading this seems to be that same as -4an (though I wouldn't trust me on this entirely).

When I had my LS1 I had the sensor installed permanently. Remember, just because it's there doesn't mean you have to log it all the time if you don't want/need to.

mr.prick
September 6th, 2010, 08:45 AM
They are designed for use in commercial refrigeration and air-conditioning applications.
:nixweiss:

I've had the AutoMeter sensor installed for a few years now and it still works. :hihi:
Honestly I don't look at the PID too much tho.

Just got mine hooked up to my '01 Silverado. I used grey for 5V, purple for ground and brown for 0-5V signal. The colors were different than what the tutorial says.

Idle pressure is about 52 psi and is within 0.5-1.0 psi of what my mechanical gauge says. Overall I'd say it works pretty well!
