Well Im thoroughly frustrated! Ive been tuning very successfully for many months now and today the software showed a "EFIlive cannot communicate with Flashscan" message

Ive basically tried the following

1)Check and reinstalled my drivers which is listed in the device manager as USB to SErial
2)Checked all connections - theyre OK
3)Reinstalled Scan and Tune
4)Repaired Scan and Tune
5)Reinstalled driver.
6)Tried the old Atap cable - it works but the EFilive cable does not communicated.

Im beginning to think it is either the logger or my computer.

SOS !

Here's a screen shot of the device. Should this read EFIlive instead of USB to Serial?

Still no connection

Can you still scan with the FS cable?

Have you recently upgraded your software?

I cannot scan with the FS cable but I can scan with the ATAP cable. I also tried to set up the FS cable onto another computer and it is recognized a "USB to parallel" according the instructions this should be recognized as EFIlive Flashscan. It looks like a cable/datalogger problem.

SOS!

Thanks

It appears that this is an EProm issue on the Datalogger since the computer does not recognize as EFIlive.

Can you experts confirm?

Thanks

Sounds like the USB eeprom may have been damaged or erased.

Download the Usbview program from here:
http://www.ftdichip.com/Resources/Utilities/usbview.zip

Run the Usbview program, find the entry that corresponds to FlashScan, select it, check for the Vendor ID and the Product ID values.
For FlashScan V1, they should be: 0x0403 and 0xE4A0
For FlashScan V2, they should be: 0x0403 and 0xE4A1
These are the values in the USB EEPROM that may have been damaged or erased somehow.

If those values are not present, you can reprogram the USB eeprom in the FlashScan device. Download and install the FTDI MProg program from here:
http://www.ftdichip.com/Resources/Utilities/MProg3.0_Setup.exe
Download and unzip the attached *.zip file.

Connect FlashScan to your PC.
Make sure all other FTDI USB devices are disconnected. (i.e. AutoTap cable). Otherwise they may also be inadvertantly reprogrammed by MProg.
Start MProg.
Select menu option Device->Scan and make sure ONLY one device (FlashScan) is detected. Keep removing other USB devices until ONLY FlashScan is detected. If FlashScan is not detected see below.
Open the appropriate *.ept file (V1 or V2) depending on which FlashScan cable you are using.
Select the menu option Device->Program.

Disconnect and then reconnect FlashScan.

If MProg cannot detect FlashScan, you need to disconnect FlashScan, then using Control Panel->Add Remove Software, uninstall the FTDI drivers (D2XX and VCP) from your PC then reconnect FlashScan.

Unfortunately I had already sent the logger to Jesse. I wish I knew I could have programmed it earlier. The shipping will cost $100 I will try to recall it from Fedex. I desparately need this for a 2.8L blower setup.

Thanks for the info.

Maybe its better to let it come back to be tested and fixed if required. If the eeprom has failed then reprogramming it may only be a temporary fix (if at all).

I'm in the same boat and will try the reprogram. There are 6 lisense copies on my cable, any chance they will be lost?

Take a screenshot of your licenses and save it to a safe place.

Using MProg will not affect anything data stored in the FlashScan unit. It simply reprograms the "EFILive FlashScan V2" USB identifier string back into the USB EEPROM.

That is probably because EFILive can't communicate with the USB chip in FlashScan, try using MPRog to reprogram it. Then see if USBView can see a device called "EFILive FlashScan V2". If so, try the EFILive software again.

P.S. After reprogramming with MProg, it is recommended to unplug and replug FlashScan to allow Windows to reset the USB drivers.

Yes, if it happens again send it in and we will replace the EEPROM chip.
Send me your serial number to paul@efilive.com and I will add a comment to our data base about it.
