I am trying to get more info on the data stream for a 95 Olds Cutlas Ciera (3.1L v6 with "M" for vin, ECM is 16213184) OBD connector has only 3 pins - A,K,M. I am able to monitor some data on M, but can't find more info on what all I am seeing.

I am getting "Chk Eng Light" coming on every now and then (random times), radiator fan also comes on. Engine seems to be running fine, and engine levels are good. I am guessing that I have a bad sensor, but dont' know how to find it. (cant read codes by shorting B pin since there is no pin) - would like to look at sensor values to see if they are out of range.

Data comes out the serial link, but not sure how to interpret it all - - I found some info, and config file for an "M" engine, but it seems to have some different data order, so I don't know if I can believe it... I have updated values for T6 and heartbeat values shown below - but still get lots of errors in comm with this.

any help would be appreciated - - thanks

example data
51:46.772: Scanning for heartbeat and chatter frames...
51:46.772: Waiting for Aldl bus silence of at least 13ms...

51:47.399: Heartbeat frame is followed by 27ms of silence

LikeToDrive,

Welcome to the forum.

I pm'd Paul with your question.

Can you can locate the the wire for ALDL pin B in the wire harness...?

(your wire diagrams should show the PCM having a connection for ALDL pin B).

No pin B, that's very strange. :nixweiss:

thanks - - this is a cool place with interesting discussions....

from all I can find in schematics and other, this is one of the "transition years" that only uses the M pin comm to talk to PCM - - never had the other pins (still have not found what K is for either - it just sits at GND all the time - no obvious signals)

Send me an email at paul@efilive.com and I'll try to help you with the info you need. I won't be back in the office until Monday 4th Dec, so send the email then.

P.S. If a comms error occurs, one strategy employed by some PCMs is to switch on the engine fans. This is because engine coolant temperature will not be able to be sent to other modules (due to the lack of comms) and the fans are switched on "just in case".

Do you hear the fans come on only when using EFILive? If so that is normal because EFILive suspends the vehicles comms while it islogging data.

Paul
