View Full Version : Another EFI-live tuned beast

The owner wants me to keep his name confidential because he has some grudge races around here I guess.

Anyway, 408cid, worked AFR 225 heads, fast intake, custom cam from Tony Mamo thru a 6 speed and IRS.

We finished a speeddensity tune on it last saturday. I was initially having a hard time because the car would go into reduced power mode about 2 seconds after the car fired. Turned out to be related to p0068 and p0121. I think that was the codes anyway.

The car did 540rwhp and around 500 ftlbs of torque at a 12.8 afr W/ CATS!!!


I was incredibly impressed. It was the highest dynoing 408 i've done here naturally aspriated. The car was an animal too.. drove absoulutely great!

I'll post a dyno sheet either tonight or tomarrow morning.

What was your p0068 fix dude? Similar issue here.
ETC expected flow, or something else?

Alvin, Impressive result there,
I was just wondering, could it have been a little rich to cause the slight dip in power and torque at 5400rpm. :cool: just curious.

Do you have the cam grid spec's or is that classified information, LOL. It holds torque quite well.

I just turned it off. That and 0121 I believe. The car woudl go into reduced power in like 1-2 seconds of run time and most of the time not trip that code when it did it. After we removed those codes we didn't have an issue anymore.


That graph was just the best hp run. I actually tuned it to 12.5:1 across the board. I've learned thru track experience that keeping them on the fat side helps them at the track a bunch. I've really gotten to where I try to fit as much fuel in as possible without hurting the numbers. Some cars theres only a 3hp difference between 12.5 and 13.2.. so 12.5 definately gets tuned in. But no, the AFR wasn't rich enogh to cause that graph like that.. it is just the cam.

For the sake of a few horses it's not always worth the risk.

I agree, I've always tuned them for around 12.5:1 ratio. I usually only see around 3-5hp difference. Some other people would tell my customers that I was tuning them too rich and killing power, but my customers have never had any issues running with the ~12.5:1 AFR. I always tune to the safe side.

Much better to lose a tad bit of hp/tq than to be sorry and have to replace the engine IMO.

Safety is not the concern here.. The car could safely run AFR in the 13.5 if it isn't knocking .

My deal is the cars usually run faster at the track like that.
