View Full Version : Died around 4200rpm

I have no idea why.
I was logging some data for my autoVE tuning and when I got to around 4200rpm the truck just died.
Any thoughts?

Ran out of gas?

But seriously, does the truck restart?
Does it die again at a similar rpm, or was it a one off failure?

Regards
Paul

Howard,

You have to find out if you're not getting one or more of spark/fuel/air and then trace backward from there (is the problem mechanical, electrical, or is it the tune...?).

Is it repeatable, or does it also not start...?

Cheers,
Joe

Hi guys,
Burb still runs fine. As soon as it happened I backed off the accelerator and it just ran normal again. No problems since.
I'm pretty sure the truck's OK mechanically and electrically.
I haven't tried revving it to 4000 again yet. I rarely get to those rev's...especially whilst still tuning. I eased it to those rev's on the freeway...so I was going pretty fast.

Are you sure you were in SD?

Are your VE values somewhat 'sane' for 4,000 on up?

Have you checked for loose grounds?

What Mods do you have?

Post your tune in this thread.

Thanks for the help guys,
Mods are only two.
-0411 PCM
-Whipple SC

The tune listed as 0001 is the one I was running when it died.
After the attached log I altered the tune as per the tutorial (I believe...except, I forgot to alter the BoostVE table).
The second tune (0002_smoothed) isthe currently loaded tune which I have basically only driven on to the shops and back so far...so no logs. Please let me know what you see?

You need to remove your Vehicle speed limiter. That is what you hit.

Thanks Jesse,
I was looking through a few things and didn't see that.
I knew some of you guys could sought me out.

I just looked through my tune and can't find where it would have caused the cut out?
Can someone direct me to the table?

H0109 = Speed Limter (non ETC).

Thanks again.
I looked at that but I didn't realise what I was looking at. It was set at 98Mph.
I set it to 120 for the moment...does that sound OK?
Also, when it died it went really lean 19 on the WBO2.
Is that normal? It goes lean when I get of the accelerator at times?

It went lean, because the speed limiter is a fuel cut off limiter ;) 120 is fine, mine is 155 :)

A few seconds after you let off the accelerator, it goes into decel fuel cut off mode (DFCO) then it shuts the injectors off to save fuel while you are coasting. That is normal. FYI, lean is not harmful to you motor unless it's under load.

For safety, set it to just below the speed rating of your tyres (although the tyre rating has a safety factor built in).

Thanks guys,
good idea Joecar.
With the Whipple and using the Whipple electronics, do you guys have any idea how I can setup the injector flow rates?
Only way I can know the fuel pressure is to watch the guage and the MAP at the same time and take notes whilst I'm driving???

Yes, you need gauge reading and MAP throughout your driving range.

Some people have installed a fuel rail pressure sensor which they can read using the FlashScan AD input...

Let me find that thread...
