View Full Version : Interesting Boost VE map problem.

Under idle only conditions, my 105kPa column in the map shows a ben correction with 100's of counts. I have to delete this info when I multiply the VE table.

I can log an idle only and the typical 25-45kpa columns 1000-800 rpm show 0.99 to 1.00 bens......then the 105kpa shows 0.94 bens....:Eyecrazy:

Post your log here.

Are you starting the log before you start your car?

I'll post a log tonight.

Not logging before the start....does it even if I wait for coolant to hit 170 before starting to log.

Not a problem since I just drop that column when tuning....just interesting to me.

Actually, I've noticed the same thing.
I wasn't sure what was happening at first. I noticed a count in the 10,000 range in the 105kpa column in one log. The attached log has a count of nearly 8000 in the 105kpa by 800rpm.
I see it when I look at the map of the boost VE table.

Can't open your file. Had the same problem using two seperate MAPs. Make a mAP like attach and you should be OK.

Thanks...that's a good idea.

Did it...that makes it alot easier. Thanks Purrvert.

hquick,

I was able to open your .zip file and view your .log file. :)

I can't see what you're saying... is that the right log, or is it just me...?

Cheers

I think the problem he was having was that having 2 separate maps for BEN VE the boost VE map would populate all the data from under 105kPa in the 105kPa column since that was the lowest value in the map and there was data below it. That's why you only want to run 1 map, or have the boost table filter anything under 105kPa out. ;)

Sounds reasonable.

THat's exactly right KB.

And, from what you're saying KB...to which I just re-read your last post and I think it answered my next question....I should apply the 105Kpa data to the primary VE table and the 115Kpa data and above to the Boost VE table?
Also, should I then copy and paste the 105Kpa data from the Primary VE table into the 105Kpa column of the Boost VE table?
This would be the same as following the tutorial. So, then every time I run a log do I then need to do the linear adjust from 105Kpa and up, on the Boost VE table?

Might be a good idea to include the dual map info above in the autoVE tutorial for those using the COS's....for a newby like me...it was throwing my 105kpa data right out of whack...and I didn't realise it.

You only need to do the linear adjust when you are first setting up the table, so that you will be plenty rich for you fist go at autotuning. Personally, I think the 300% the tutorial says is WAY too much, I only go about 40% and then do a couple quick runs into boost to get an idea of where is want to be and then adjust the table, by hand to get it close, but still rich and fine tune it from there.

If you use the preconfigured 2bar BEN map in the scan tool for your WB, you can highlight the whole table after you've logged and gotten your BEN numbers and then copy with labels and the paste multiply with labels to both the primary VE and then all so the boost VE. By doing it this way, it will only fill the cells in those table with data that matches the label. Once I'm close, you usually only work on small parts of the table at a time by hand copying and pasting, until it's right on.

I'd really appreciate it if you'd take a look at my current tune and tell me if anything in particular stands out that looks unusual?
This is the only Suburban in Australia with this setup...as far as I know!

Boosted, right? Super, turbocharger? I would run it a bit richer in the commanded fuel table (B3647). With my turbo, I run 11.5 when boosting. The 12.95 you have in there now it ok for a NA motor, but a boosted motor probably won't live there long. I'd keep it between 11.5 and 12.0 if it were me. 5.3's a really bad about detonating and braking ringlands off in boost. Everything else looks ok.

Yeah it's a Whippled 5.7L.
I'm tinkering with the VE table at present. Trying to get the elusive 1.0 in as many cells as possible :Eyecrazy:
Thanks for the advice.
