When I go to read calibration data i get an error : Bootloader rejected. EFILive could not unlock the PCM.

I have a feeling HPtuners has it locked somehow. Is there a way EFI will unlock it? As ussual there is no info over at HPTuners on how to unlock.

What does the seed say it is when you try to read?

It also says PCM key is locked with a custom key.

I dont recall ever seeing that Gm os number. Are you using a custom os? If so, then you need to put it back to stock, then use efilive.

Theres the problem. I updated HPTuners reused a custom OS an it charged me another credit. I tried to use a stock tune and used up my last three credits as a vehicle vin tune. After I was charged these credits I went to run the tune then the software said the OS was out of date or something and still charged me the credits.
In short I am not going to give $99 to get credits to load a stock tune on my car.
That is another reason I am going to try my luck with EFI.

Does it sound like my PCM is permenately locked?

You could take it to the dealer and I believe they can flash it to stock, but that's not free either :( unless you have a hook up.

I don't know if it would work, but you might try to just do a FULL write to your PCM with a stock base EFILive tune. Might write over your HPT custom OS.

That wont work. He needs to put it back to stock using the hp cable he locked it with.

The Dealer wont be able to do it.

If he knew the exact key, then he could manually type that in, But i doubt the hp crew would do that for him.

Question is why in the hell is there a need to lock the friggen tune in the first place? It's his tune? He paid for it? Seems dumb to me but I'm old and a lot of crap is starting to look dumber as I age.

Exactly what I said. HPT says its not locked so why cant i even read with EFI then? It is locked somehow.

Even if its not locked, EFILive can not read a HPT custom OS, as it's built difrent then a stock tune file. EFILive should be able to read a HPT modified stock tune though, just not COS SD 1 bar, 2-3 bar type of tunes.

So how would I go about reflashing with EFI?

From what Ive heard about this problem, you have a couple options:

1. use the HPT cable to reflash a stock OS (really doesnt matter which one, you can just do a full flash with EFILive with the correct one later anyway)

2. Ask HPT for the seed key so EFILive's bootloader can get access to the ECM/PCM and flash it

3. Buy a new ECM/PCM

Bill at HPTuners tole me I need to do a reflash with a stock tune with HPT and everything should be fine.
I have done that and still no dice. I appreciate his help and feel bad if I stepped on anyones toes but that is water under the bridge.
Quite the can or worms I have opened up. All I want is a car that runs. Counting my deployement, modding the car and now trying to tune it, I have not really driven it in almost 9 months. Sucks to be me.
Jason at LS1tech is willing to flash the pcm for me if I send it in. That might be my best option.
