View Full Version : Trouble loading 2002 OS in 1999 PCM

I have V1 Commercial and upgraded to V2. The V2 is up and running and I transferred the licenses to the V2.

I am trying to upload a converted 2002 Vette OS to my 99, I believe I should hit "Program PCM with currently loaded Operating System and Calibration" to do this, however it is not selectable (greyed out)...

:help2:

My V2 has done that a time or too. Doesn't seem to recognize its a commercial version. Try unplugging and repulging everything, maybe even close down the software and restarting it. Usually works for mine.

Yep that worked...

Thanks kbracing96
Car even starts with the New OS...

had to reset the oil life after the update

But now I have a DTC 1336 Crank Position CKP System Variation Not Learned :bash:

:help2:

Just use the scan tool bidirectionals to do the CKP relearn. :)

Beer99C5
May 5th, 2007, 04:53 AM
That was not so bad, did the relearn (it stumbled at about 3800-4000 RPM and the DTC is cleared).

Took it out and did about 40 miles no codes and drives fine...

So next is the Cal only flash with OS5?

I am getting close to wrapping this thing up. :notacrook:

First do a full flash of COS5 (02020005).
Then do a cal only flash from your saved 2002 OS (12212156).
Then edit the out-of-range values to some sane value (or to max-1 for some).

LOL damn I gotz it backwards you get me about once a year there Joe doing something ass backwards :bash: fortunately i did not try to merge em yet

OK not getting anywhere...I did various combinations

Base 2002 (full OS load) with the COS 5 (cal only) loaded cal only goes into reduced power mode on start up

Loading the COS 5 (full OS load) first then the 2002 tune cal only yeilds no start.

After a quick look, some comments on the second tune:
- looks like MAF is enabled, increase C2911.
- B3547 is very rich at idle, and lean at high MAP values.
- B5913 has too much advance for boost, seems to me.
- C6301 doesn't look right for 2 bar MAP sensor (but I'm not sure).

The intent is to use the Nitrous part of the OS on a NA car.

Ok after following the tutorial to a T, it starts but now I have DTC 0300 Misfire issues, idles horribly and stubbles when revved...will post current tune. in a few minutes.

Beer,
- Enter values for those out-of-range tables/parameters.
- For NO2, use A0015 to richen, and A0016 to retard.
- Closed loop is enabled and MAF enabed... is this how it was running prior to going to COS5...?
- During idle/warmup, open loop AFR will be very rich, but at high map values it will be too lean, see first pic; should look more like the second pic.
- Post a few logs.

I think I have another issue as well, I think I knocked the MAP hose off running a FPSS harness, let me check that as I loaded a tune that worked previously and the MAP at idle is 40-70 kpa and very erratic.

Beer99C5
May 7th, 2007, 04:21 AM
Well this sucks, pulled the intake off, and the hose was fine as well as everything else...something is just not right...:nixweiss:

Joe yes it was running fine with the CL and MAF enabled pre COS5

Joe yes it was running fine with the CL and MAF enabled pre COS5 If you copied your VE and and IFR tables (and all the other tables)...
then it's probably due to either (or both) of:
- the out of range values need to be made sane (the displayed value is the max, but the actual value is out of range; enter max-1 or some sane value, save and do cal-only flash).
- B3647 is very rich at low RPM (something like AFR 9)... this table you have to make look like the pic in my earlier post... flat at low/mid MAP, and then ramping up to high MAP so that it's sufficiently rich when throttle is wide (and MAP is high).

"...I hate when that happens..."

Beer99C5

I will that next Joe, I am bolting up the intake (was not the MAP hose, as I had hoped)...

On the up side my intake/fuel rail removal/install skills are getting quicker

Sorry I missed your call this weekend Beer. Hit me up a bit later if you are still having issues and I will see if we can't clear them up.

Something is still not right, here are some brief logs.
The EGR records my fuel pressure...I dont think it is tune related as I the first two logs are COS 5 and the last log is a good tune from August.

Going under the car today to look for burned O2 wires or exhaust leaks or anything blantanly obvious...

Notice the erratic MAP value ???

Seems I am not getting any spark, could the plugs be fouled, that bad from trying to start it like it was? Going to pull them today.

Beer99C5
May 9th, 2007, 12:35 AM
OK pulled plug #3 I suspect all are the same...Howard got me focused on looking for Spark, as I could certainly smell fuel.

I hope this is the culprit...Probably 800 miles on this set of plugs.

http://www.retrorelics.net/jim/Boards/EFILive/Plug3a.JPG

Possibly the car was to rich as Joe pointed out (the rough idle) and then it got the the point where the plugs are so fouled no start??? Hope so this would be an easy fix

joecar

I agree, MAP looks erratic... check MAP sensor o-ring and check for other intake leaks.

After you pull the plugs, also check the plug wires with a DMM/ohmmeter to see if they are all the same.

Yes, plug tip shows carbon fouling (can't even see the ceramic).

Beer99C5
May 9th, 2007, 12:26 PM
Up and running (an older tune not COS5) it was the plugs. On to COS5 again :)

Here is what I want to use next, its a combination of feedback from Joe, and Lorenz.

Any feedback on this tune? Being there are no out of limits it should work first try? Also changed table 3647 per Joe.

Looks like it should work... it will now idle closer to 14.5 so you shouldn't get fouling.

Purple on black... very nice...

I see on N2O monitoring the AFR goes down to just under 11.5 which is sufficiently rich for N20...

I hope to dyno and tweak a bit this weekend. I am getting an 1153 DTC HO2S Insufficient Switching Bank 2 Sensor 1. Is this likely from having it so rich in my earlier blunder? Can I safely make it a not reported DTC. The AFR seems to go mid 12's with this DTC.

How are you monitoring bottle pressure with efilive, that's badass?!

Using a Nitrous sending unit and setting it up for a custom PID. The sending unit I have currently (Dynotune) is not that good for logging (fine for use with their gauge), the resolution is so narrow, EFI Live does not support it to .00XX volts so the I am getting readings w/i 200 PSI which is to much error to be useful. I am going to swap to a different sending unit (uses the full 0-5 V for reading pressure) this fall and it will work fine.

Shoot me a PM in about three weeks, I hope to have it running (I am in Singapore til the end of the month...need to order the autometer sending unit and set it up). Based on getting the Dynotune one ball park and getting the autometer fuel pressure gauge working should be no problem.
