I tried connecting efilive V1 for the first time and get the error
efi live cannot communicate with the pcm
disconnect the scantool if it is selected
please turn off the ignition, check all cables, turn on the ignition and try again
I have EFI Flashscan FSP in my device manager
cigarette lighter outlets work
V7.4.2
GENIII 97/98 pcm (its a 98 LS1)
What am I doing wrong?

Which software ver are you running? Do you have the 97/98 engine controller selected? I think the default is for 99+up

I also have a 1998 and have also had occasional connections problems since I installed V7.4.2 and the newest V1 driver. I thought it was a coincidence (and maybe it is) until I saw this thread.
I get one of the two explanations
EFI Live cannot communicate with the PCM
No interface detected
Doc – I have the correct PCM selected

What I have to do on my 98 is:
Turn key on
Connect OBDII connector
Connect USB cable
This usually works for me. Oops, I have a V2, dont know if that makes a diff or not. This post may be of no value at all.

Does this tell anybody anything? I select 97/98 GEN III as the controller. I uninstalled the usb driver and software today and re did it. I am getting very frustrated. Sometimes the lights on the box flash or come on. Will the scan part of this recognize my 2006 Trailblazer 4.2I6?

Something is wrong between your V1 and your PCM:
- is PCM powered...?
- is OBD-II port powered (I see you said the cigar lighter fuse is good)...?
- is cable from V1 to OBD-II port good...?
- is wiring from OBD-II port to PCM good...?
Is there another F-body you can try the scantool on...?
In any case, you may want to check the PCM fuse(s).

I believe you need V2 to scan your 2006 TB.

Yes you do, the P11 and P12 PCMs are scannable only with V2, the P10 (02-05 TBs) can be done with V1.
