View Full Version : Column Lock Option

A friend's car (98 C5) cut out while going down the drag strip. When we looked at the codes, he had a P1626 "Theft Deterent Start/Fuel Enable Signal Lost" code. I was going to disable VATS and noticed G0801 "Column Lock Option".

My question is, if we set this to "No", will this disable the Column Lock function and not cause an other problems. We both have aftermarket column lock bypasses in the cars but occasionally will get a 'Service Column Lock' message. I'd like to know if this will eliminate that message permanently. :nixweiss:

Thanks!

Hello Ninety8C5,
A year or so ago I had noticed that you had posted that a friend had his 98 vette cut out for no apparent reason except maybe P1626. I have had that trouble on and off for 2 years. Recently I had put may very best racing tune on my 98 vette. When getting on to the strip to race, the burnout goes well and then when I womp on it the car cuts out totally in first or second gear and once in 3rd. This is the first time I have noticed the P1626 (it may have been there before also when racing) I will turn off this as suggested. I had a built 346 a few years back and it did occasionally happen The motor would stop for no apparent reason.
Now with my 427ci, the motor does this when I really womp on it, and the code 1626 comes up. Do you think it is possible that the violent launch could cause this and has some type of time delay built in or that the PCM sends info faster than the BCM can compute? Did disabling P1626 fix the problem? If I take off smooth and stay above the 11.5 sec and above the car does not do that P1626 fuel cut off in general. ALso what sensors make THIS P1626 CODE GO OFF. Any help and if that solve your friends problem please let me know.
I want security even at the track but maybe that is not possible. It would be nice to know what causes this DTC.

If I remember correctly, his car had the probem more often when he had the V1 plugged into the ALDL logging data. I don't remember if that fixed the problem or not. I think he just stopped trying to log data when making a run.

Hello mr.prick,

Thanks! That is exactly what I was looking for.
I will think about the private message as to the RR.
The Boss has reduced my toy allowance for a little while and yes I am P**whipped.
Thanks again,
