What do I need to scan for codes?

Hi, I am new to efilive and know nothing at all yet. Basically I would like to be able to scan my LS1 for error codes. I have downloaded V7.4.2 and i would like to know, apart from the software and a laptop, what else do I need. I have looked at the efilive website for information but I am still unsure as to what else I need. Like I said , I know nothing yet.

Have you actually bought the FlashScan package, in which case you'll have the FlashScan interface cable?

No I haven't bought anything yet. That is what I actually meant by my question, what do I need to buy. So I take it I need to buy the FlashScan package. Thanks for you help Andrew.
