In a continuing quest to understand the E38 I did some more logging last night.

It appears that the "Engine Zones" for LO, MED and High are as follows;

idle to 2800 is LO speed
2800 to 4000 is MED speed
4000 to Redline is HI speed

I am trying to figure out why they break it down as such and what is happening different when in the specific zone.

Howard, probably the more important Zone PID is - ENG_ZONE_DMA1
This is the one that indicates the Zone number the ECM is working with, that number is then referenced back to the VE terms (1 - 30) so you know where the VE values are being derrived from.

Yeah I got that one logged as well. From your pdf you posted the other day I see how its laid out.

I am surprised that there aren't more tables in the PCM that show these Zones and RPM areas. The DMA1 is quite active during driving. Now I'm trying to see which Zones are used under what type of driving/loads.

Keep the info coming!
