could someone shed some light on this?
i`m thinking of buying a used RR and v1.
the guy said it needs a "hard start" (seems he had some difficulties with install)
also is a RR license transferable from v1 to v2.
or should i steer clear?

I'd ask Craig or post on his forum, if you haven't done that already...

The license works with either V1 or V2. I have used it before and after the upgrade last year. It does take some configuring with your PC and EFI Live to work correctly. Craig's page here shows the necessary installation procedures.

PS. Once you use one you will be hooked.

I'm not sure what he meant by that, unless he had a hard start getting it to work.

I am not an electronics engineer, so I recommend getting this description clarified by the guy who made the comment, but...

When refering to electronics a hard reset (aka cold boot or hard boot) usually means to remove power and re-apply power. i.e. disconnect the loom from the RoadRunner, or remove the battery terminal. (Maybe even remove the battery that backs up the RAM inside the RR device).

A soft reset or soft boot usually means to pull the reset line of the CPU low causing the CPU to restart, but without actually removing power.

By removing power from the PCM you are resetting ALL components in the PCM, not just the CPU.

FWIW, I don't know how else you could reset the RR. I don't think there is a soft reset option. A soft reset option usually involves a reset pushbutton that controls the CPU's reset line. Although turning the ignition off/on has a pseudo "reset" effect.

Paul
