Hi guys,
been donkeys since I was here last.
Went to the States in July. One week after my return I blew up the 60E.
Decided to do the swap to the 80E...apparently no one has done this before in the OBS 4x4 5.7L Suburban.
Anyway...imported a trany from PA and rebuilt it...just for the hell of it...and the experience :bash: :Eyecrazy: :D
Now I'm having a look at my tune and I'm wondering how I go about making the changes.
Do I just copy ever table from a tune of a vehicle with an 80E?
I looked in Holden Crazy and couldn't find anything running a 411 PCM and 5.7L with 4L80E.
Lextech sent me a copy of his TT truck tune and I just copied and pasted every table accross..is that right? He's using COS5 and I'm using COS3.

You need to do the tranny segment swap. There is a 02 Silveado 6.0l that has the 80e on HoldenCrazy.

It doesn't matter what the motor is in the tune you find, it just needs to have the 80 and be the same operating system#. Then just do a trans segment swap and you should be good.

Hey Howard,

You also have to move around a couple of pcm pins that go to the Big trans connector...Lextech probably already gave you that info, but if not let me know and I'll send you the schematics.

Thanks guys...yeah I have the wiring diagrams and that's easy enough.
I was more concerned with the tune side of it.
As I'm running Cos3, how do I do it?

Are you using COS3 for an '01 or '02 PCM?

COS3 for the 99+ with the 2001 Express van base.
I just made the segment swap using the file for the Silverado as Doc suggested.
Seemed to work fine.
Can someone please check this for me?

Thanks

Howard

The real test will be when you flash it in, if the truck runs and drives

Why has the boost VE table gpone to all 500 since the segment swap?

That's weird, you should do a comparision with your old file and make sure all the engine parameters are where they should be. Sounds like it worked for the most part.

Seems all the COS tables are different.

I just did the same thing and got the same results.

Took my COS 02020003 file and did a Trans Calibration and Diagnostic segment swap and all my COS tables and parameters went to flat values.

I would think that if you just copy all of that over from your old file and do a full flash with the new file, you should be good to run. Weird though.

Thanks Max,
Must be something to do with it being a COS.
I'll PM Paul and see what he thinks.

The EFILive custom calibrations are allocated in segment 0. So to transfer custom calibrations you need to copy segment 0.

Even though segment 0 is called the "operating system", copying segment 0 does not copy the operating system, it only copies EFILive custom calibrations.

Sorry Paul...you lost me!
I just copied the trany tables to my tune and as I did my COS tables all changed.

Hey Howard,

I am using COS3 not 5. My tune should flash right into your truck.

G'day Howard,

Are you saying you copied only the trans segment from a 4L80E file to your COS3 file, and the custom cals are now different...?

Cheers,
Joe

Yes Joe...thats exactly what happened.

Here's the two tunes...before and after.

Thanks Jeff....I didn't realize that.

It should not do that - I'm looking into it.

Thanks Paul. This is why I like this forum so much...it's also why my JET DST hasn't seen the light of day in a long time! :D

Sorry Paul...you lost me!
I just copied the trany tables to my tune and as I did my COS tables all changed.

That is normal , the custom stuff was using the spare space in the trans segment , it is simply a matter of changing the custom OS calibration part back again after the trans segment swap is done manually.

Maybe it's normal because no one has mentioned it before?
It could catch someone unawares.
If Paul can fix it so it doesn't do that it would be great.

Otherwise, so what you're saying Delco is I just need to copy and paste the tables from the COS section of my original tune into the new saved tune which I did the segment swap on?

Hmmmm, just goes to show I should ask the experts before saying "it should not do that".

Although there is (supposed to be) a check during segment copies to exclude ALL data that is used by custom calibrations. That was specifically added about 2 years ago to prevent this exact situation. I will try and see why it is not working as designed.

Didnt know you had tried to add that in Paul , it has never worked here anyway :)

simple matter of copying the custom calibrations back in then reflashing the PCM.

Ok guys...rather than start a new thread...thought I'd dig this one up again as it's part of the same mod.
Finally...after replacing my diff I can drive my Burb again.
I'm using the AutoVE tutorial again as I have also installed the Marine Manifold, elec fans and hydroboost braking system.
My problem is...truck seems to be almost unsure as to what gear to shift into.
Ie, when I'm turning a corner and try to accelerate...even gently the truck stutters.
Is there something I can/need to do during the AutoVE process to adjust the trany? As far as I know, this is the first 4L80E to ever be installed in an OBS 4x4 5.7L Burb.
Thanks
Howard
