View Full Version : LS2 E40 VATS delete?

I transplanted the LS2 into a 1993 Mazda RX7 so lots of stuff is missing (VATS, ABS, BCM, etc).

The engine wont start. I get fuel pressure, the throttle works, and I can communicate with the PCM.

I have tried to delete VATS, but the ECM still throws a code saying its getting the wrong anti theft signal. Any ideas?

I "deleted" VATS by changing values in tables G1204, G1206, G1208, G1208, G1209, G1210, G1211, G1214, G1215, and applying the VATS patch (B9903). Did I miss anything?

Thanks,
Chris

Just so you didn't miss something here is the exact steps.

Apply VATS patch.
Change G1204 to No
Change VATS type (G1210) to Type3.
Save file, FULL flash ECM.This is known to work on several conversions, can you please confirm you have done that, if not, please retry doing those steps.

Cheers,
Ross

I did exactly that. No luck. I also checked and its definitely not sparking. Here are the codes and tables I have:

P0443 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Solenoid Control Circuit
P0449 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent Solenoid Control Circuit
P0452 Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) Sensor Circuit Low Voltage
P0463 Fuel Level Sensor 1 Circuit High Voltage
P0443 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Solenoid Control Circuit
P0449 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent Solenoid Control Circuit
P0452 Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) Sensor Circuit Low Voltage
P0463 Fuel Level Sensor 1 Circuit High Voltage
P0443 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Solenoid Control Circuit
P0449 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent Solenoid Control Circuit
P0452 Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) Sensor Circuit Low Voltage
P0463 Fuel Level Sensor 1 Circuit High Voltage
P0532 Air Conditioning (A/C) Refrigerant Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Voltage
P1629 Theft Deterrent Start Enable Signal Not Received
U0121 Lost Communication With Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module

LABELS Disable VATS Patch
Parameters Value
{B9901} MAF Error Patch Applied
{B9902} Traction Control Patch Not Applied
{B9903} Disable VATS Patch Applied

LABELS VATS Enable
Parameters Value
{G1204} VATS Enable No
{G1206} VATS Required To Run Yes
{G1208} VATS Fail Diagnostic Disable
{G1209} VATS Mode No
{G1210} VATS Type Type 3
{G1211} Remote Start Allowed No
{G1214} Relearn Count 3 Counts
{G1215} Relearn Timer 10 Seconds

Looks like the P1629 is the cause. Let me know what to do.

Thanks,
Chris

A friend thinks it may be an unplugged crank position sensor. Would that be possible without the PCM throwing a code?

I checked, both the crank and cam position sensors are plugged in and I drove the GTO before I pulled the motor so I know the sensors work.

Wouldnt the PCM throw a code if either of those sensors didnt work or were unplugged?

If the scantool shows RPM while cranking, the the CKP sensor is fine;

scantool should have CMP sensor PID(s) which you use to see if there's can pulses while cranking.

I think the PCM throws codes if either is open circuited, I'll have to check.

Sounds like you have a anti threft problem (P1629).

I will check the RPMs during cranking when I get home.

I also think its VATS, but someone said that it only disables fuel not spark (at least on the older LS1s)

Yes, VATS disables fuel; but you should still get spark.

You probably should check both of these nonetheless.

Nope, Im a jackass :) Or GM is, either way works.

In the GTO they ran the power for the ignitors through a connector up by the MAF. I didnt look the GTO over thoroughly and I just dismissed that connector as fog lights or something useless up in the front bumper.

I dont have the Helms manual (yea, Im impressed Ive made it this far without it) so if anyone knows the pinout of that connector let me know. Its a 6 pin with 5 wires:

Red - 12V switched
Light Green - 12V switched
Dark Green
Pink/blue
Black/red

Anyone know what the other three wires connect to? (they all trace to one/both of the ignitor connectors)

I can't get my 2005 SPO eSI ("GM service manual") working;

I got the 2003 version working, but that doesn't have GTO.

WOOOHOOOO... ITs RUNNING!!!

Got her fired up last night. That connector was the problem. It should be
Red - 12V switched (ign 1)
Light Green - 12V switched (ign 1)
Dark Green - ground
Pink/blue - 12V switched (ign 1)
Black/red - ground

Thanks for the help guys!
