I bought a used pcm and am wondering how do I flash my VIN to it? Also do I just flash calibrations or do I do a full flash? Also how do I do the BCM relink? This is the first time I have done this so I'm just a little nervous about doing the wrong thing and messing everything up. thanks in advance

Marc

Disconnect battery, remove old PCM, install new PCM, reconnect battery.

Then (this is what I did on my 01 F-bird):
1. Full flash your current tune using tunetool.
2. Write your VIN using scantool.
3. Do VATS relink using tunetool.

After doing step 3, it started right up.

In your case (97/98), step 1 should take zero licenses.

How does that change the vin???? Does it somehow save it into the PCM?? Does it save it into the PCM like when you do a cal.only re-flash in the tune tool???

I dont understand how the scantool can change the VIN and save it into the PCM.... Cause youre not saving anything or able to change parameters in the PCM via the scantool are you????

Please educate me.... never changed the VIN before and id like to...

Id like to take out the 01 F-BODY OS thats in my 01 z06 vette and put an 02 A4 vette OS in the car... When we did the A4 swap we only had an 01 A4 F-BODY OS w/ HP TUNERS....

TIA

Joe, cant you change the VIN through the tuning tool by changing it in the calibration tab and then doing a full OS & cal. reflash, or in the PCM/VATS relink option tab??? There is an option to change the VIN and program it into the PCM... Will that work????

The VIN is not stored in flash, but in nvram (a separate smaller memory).

So the correct way would be to.......????? change it in the scan tool or tuning tool??????

I would do it in the scantool (US$0.02).
