Newbie ? EFILive v4 95 Riviera Vin 1 3.8 SC

Hello, I have some Newbie questions I recieved my obd to usb cable and I'm trying to connect and stream some data from my pcm

Vin 1 is the correct def file. for this car from what I gather. EFILive needs to have either the diagnostic or clear code line selected at the left.

I have streaming characters across my HyperTerminal screen***Now I connect to car and EFILive v4 w/ vin 1 loaded for 3.8 engines, I set com port 3, then click on the engine data selection and hit the green go and it seems to connect for a moment and then I recieve an error about com port timing out, then it connects and runs through a couple steps and times out again ...etc....until it finally stops, then the green sign turns green again. I can sent screen shot if need be.
? Is the pontiac file on EFILive v4: 95KL363.8 Pontiac Bonniville SE1995 Pontiac Vin K.zip and 951L673.8Pontiac Grand Prix GTP or Bonnieville SSEI1995 Pontiac Vin 1.zip suppose to work with my car? Sorry for all the newbie questions....just trying to figure this out.

V4 will work with dedicated USB-ALDL cables, what it won't work with is a generic USB to serial converter.
Actually its not EFILive V4 that doesn't like the generic serial-usb converters, its the PCM. The PCM transmits/receives data at 8192 baud. The closest baud rate that a real serial UART can get to that is 8200. That's what EFILvie sets the UART to in a PC with a real RS232/UART port.
Most generic usb to serial converters only support the "standard" baud rates of 9600, 19200, 56700 etc... None of those baud rates will allow communication with the PCM.

Anyway, if you are seeing valid data in hyperterminal it sounds like it is working ok.

In EFILive V4, select the menu option View->Show Serial IO, that will display more detailed information/diagnostics about the communication between the PC and the PCM.
Then, click on the Display ALDL chatter toolbar icon. Let that run for about 5 seconds and then click stop.
Right click in the text window and select "Copy All", paste the copied data into and email and send it to me.

I need to see more of that data, at least 5 seconds.
It will eventually repeat (every 1 or 2 seconds) and I would like to see at least two complete cylces.
