View Full Version : LH6 to LS2 DBW no throttle operation

Hi guys,
I converted an LH6 Envoy DOD engine to fit under the hood of a Volvo. Had to use an LS2 GTO intake and throttle body to fit under the hood. Starts fine but no throttle operation. I'm wondering if the pedal/throttle body isn't compatible with the ecm from the truck. GTO gas pedal sensor also. Have triple checked wiring to the ecm/pedal sensor 3 times. Kind of lost.

Ok how about the same question less polluted!
What is needed to utilize LS2 GTO intake/TB in place of truck tall intake from LH6? Can't believe I'm the first to try this. I have 2 E40's. Will try anything.

I don't know for sure, but it sounds like what you said: pedal/TB is not compatible with that ECM.

So if I can find a comparable OS I should be good to go? I wonder what has a GTO TB and 5.3 DOD. I full flashed a GTO OS but wouldn't even crank even after deleting the VATS.

Well think about it for me if you will and thanks for the help.

So Joecar,

Last night I flashed the 5.3 E40 with a complete operating system from an 06 GTO which I own. Seems I'm not able to install complete OS for some reason. Today I'll take the E40 from the GTO and delete the VATS and try it in the 5.3 Volvo. If it works I'm off to my Chev dealer to have them flash the 5.3 E40 hopefully that will work ok. Then I'll start from there.

I have an Ebay E40 from an 05 GTO but completely different OS. still waiting for a license to come through from EFIlive so I can try that one.

I'm no great tuner. Just want to get it up and running and have someone with more knowledge than me tune it.

Very frustrating for me.

I don't know much about the later ECMs... but I remember reading that the throttle/pedal module has to be compatible with the ECM, i.e. from the same model of vehicle.

Read the ECM into a file, and compare the file size with what you were trying to write.

Will do on the file size comparison.
Called Speartech in Indiana to order a E40 harness for isolated reprograming. He says throttle should at least work. Not much time today but checked pin voltages at ECM...no signal on APP1. Looks like I wired something wrong or bad pedal? find out tonight for sure. Hopefully anyway.

Ok have spent over 4 hours on this problem today. Found a loose pin at #41 of C1 of ECU because I had taken connector apart to relocate cooling fan relay driver. These are very tiny pins and care must be used to reassemble. That said I still have no throttle although now I get correct voltages at APP signal locations (both).
So I reflashed my other GTO E40 and engine started once for a few seconds and shut off. Never had a chance to blip the throttle but after a scan detected NO APP codes; truly I'm headed in the right direction. So that said I've taken an OS from an 06 GTO and full flashed the truck ecu. Now it won't crank even after deleting all VATS and applying VATS patch just like I had in the truck OS. Keep getting a code P1682 ECU immobilizer function deactivated. Hey at least I have NO more APP or throttle codes.
Any help would be appreciated to delete the VATS as this is in an older Volvo which no one would ever want to steal anyway! So now I have a big stoagy burning and a full(almost gone) Budweiser in my gullet.:bawl:

Well for now I'd like to forget the throttle issue and just use a GTO E40 and try to delete the VATS. As per this post:http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?t=6497&highlight=vats+delete
I've applied Vats patch, G1204 to no, G1210 to type 3, saved and FULL flashed. Still no crank and also P1629 code when I try to crank. funny thing though when I read the ECM back the Vats patch shows not applied.
Full flashed again and finally VATS patch stayed "applied". Still no crank. Now this is the E40 out of an 06 GTO. If I plug in the Envoy E40 the engine fires right up but no throttle. If I install the GTO E40 back in the wife's new Pontiwreck it fires right up. Read the GTO E40 for a third time and the VATS stuff all like Ross said in the thread.
I'm stumped! My idea was to get the Volvo up and running on the GTO E40 than take one of my other 2 E40s to the local Chev dealer and have them flash the GTO OS and then I'd delete the VATS myself. At least giving me a starting point. At this point the DOD doesn't really matter.

Perhaps it is looking for the clutch switch input.
For safety reasons we removed that calibration, if you want to send your .tun file to support@efilive.com I'll disable the clutch start option for you.

I had earlier disabled G1213. I'll hang for now beacause I need to use LH6 E40. It's one step at a time for me.

Pedal, ECM, TB and OS have to be from the same system. Did you try the LH6 TB?

This experience has been an eye opener to say the least. Kind of like George Bush.
Actually looking back I was trying to crank the engine over with a GTO E40 and OS, GTO TB, GTO gas pedal. All GTO stuff, but kept coding p1629 anti-theft. Actually tried 2 GTO E40s, both same code after full Vats reflash. Kind of stuck on this problem but I have since purchased a truck gas pedal ($55 CHEAP) and truck APP sensor harness ($60 for a d@mn plug with 6 wires). The LH6 fires up and runs perfectly with the GTO intake manifold and LH6 TB,LH6 APP, and LH6 OS.
I've been fooling around with adding resistors to make the GTO APP sensor work with the LH6 OS but not worth the effort anymore. I like the look of the GTO gas pedal in a Volvo; makes it look like a ricer!
I'm sure down the road (after I waist a bunch of money trying to re-cam this LH6) I'll just end up with a 6 liter anyway. I should have just dropped the 10K on a Goat motor instead of the 4K I spent on the LH6. I'll just deal with this scene at that time.

Glad you got it going. It would probably work now with the LS2 TB as well. Just that the LS2 TB might not open fully (I will have to finish that adapter some day).

The engine control module (ECM), the powertrain interface module (PIM), and the body control module (BCM) are integral part of the vehicle theft deterrent system. The theft deterrent system authenticates the security code programmed into each of these modules to prevent unauthorized vehicle operation. This authentication process includes the following steps:
<LI type=1>When the ignition is turned ON or the door is unlocked by remote key the BCM and the key exchange security data to verify the correct key is used. <LI type=1>Once the correct key has been confirmed and the ignition is turned ON, the PIM and BCM exchange data to confirm the correct BCM and PIM is being used. <LI type=1>Once the correct key, BCM, and PIM is confirmed, the PIM and ECM exchange data to allow the vehicle to start.
The data exchange processes conducted use various encrypted data exchanges between each of the devices.Important: If any of these authentication processes fail, the vehicle will not start and DTCs will set. Joecar, I used ALL LH6 stuff. The GTO ECMs still WILL NOT enable cranking(code 1629, both ECMs).
DrX, Thanks for the Info. I have Alldata (I have a repair shop) and access to that. I'm thinking I might have a wiring issue. It's a home made harness from the LH6.
Project is nearly finished. Now if I can get small turbo(under car) recommendations I'll be a happy driver!:Eyecrazy:
