ls6 tune

Hello,
I just bought efi live and I have no clue on how to do any tuning. I live in el paso tx and the elevation is about 4000ft which is crazy. Now I have a 1998 pontiac Transam WS6 A4. I basically have a ls6 engine out of a 2003 z06. I have 3.42 gears, lid, and pacesetter longtube headers. Now I wanted to know how hard it would be for me to tune the car? As it is right now it runs good But I think a tune will make it run even better. I don't have any rear O2's.

You may want to read the AutoVE tuning tutorial (which involves using a wideband) and decide if you want to go this route...

thanks, I read up on it and I'm still kinda lost. So the first thing I would do is to do a dyno run and then have efi scan the car? Then i would play with the tables like in the tutorial? How would I know if I'm damaging the car?

So your car already runs ok, but could be better...?

Post some logs showing LTFT's, KR, SPARK, MAF, MAP, RPM, VSS, and others (GEAR is its A4).

First thing is to drive the car on the street and take some logs; connect up the wideband and see what AFR it measures; determine if it is too lean or too rich under various load conditions.

Be listening for pinging, if you hear it then address it immediately.

First thing is to log... you have to know what it is doing before you change anything.

Also make sure it is mechanically sound.

well i hear a ping at idle. The car pulls good on the stock ls1 tune. maybe I should copy the ls6 tables onto mine? would that be a good start?

Your motor is a stock LS6 (which is not much different than a stock LS1)... have you tried the stock LS6 tune...?

no I havnt tried the zo6 tune. I thought that the z06 had a different maf? Im still using my stock ls1 maf sensor.

Copy your LS1 MAF table into the LS6 tune...

- open 2 instances of the tunetool, one on the LS1 file, the other on the LS6 file,
- do "copy with labels" of the LS1 MAF table (B5001),
- do "paste with labels" into the LS6 file,
- save the LS6 file with a new file name.

well here is my stock tune, let me know what you guys think about it. I have no idea where to begin. there are so many spark tables and I dont even know how to delete the rear o2's! HELP!!
